Perfect powerpop/girl group sounds, October 23, 2005

One of Chicago's finest, The Dials write perfect powerpop tunes with just enough Girl Group shimmy and Ramones-esque hooks to please any fan of the genre.Surf Guitar, Farfisa that would do ? and the Mysterians proud,one of the best rythm sections going, and two part harmonies that bring to mind the Shangri-La's and the Crystals, without the revisionism of some of the more sixties obsessed anglophiles. Updated, but with feet firmly rooted in the sounds of the past.The songs are complimented by an excellent recording that captures the band's sound effectively.I could list each song individually, but it would be pointless. The records comes of more like a greatest hits than a debut. Just perfect.
