Product Description

Flexcut blades, as the name implies, are flexible to give you more control over your cuts. Made of high carbon spring steel, the tool shank gives just enough to follow the contour of carving, eliminating the need to have a handful of traditional tools to finish a single profile. This unique material also contributes to its excellent edge holding capability as the shank is tempered like a spring while the tip is hardened to Rc 59-61, then hand honed and polished. The ash handles are ergonomically designed to increase the comfort and ease of use. Each tool is pre-sharpened and ready to use. Theres a knife for every cutting and shaping application that might arise.

This is a great sharp knife. I have been using it to taper and widdle spokes. Fits great in your hand.

Frankly I am not using this knife for its intended purpose, carving wood, so I do not know how it would work for that. I bought it to use for a pattern cutting knife in my leather shop. The blade does come very well polished and wicked sharp right out of the box. It is a full tapered grind with no secondary bevel and so far it has stayed sharp with only a few strokes on the strop every now and again, and it gets used a lot cutting 10 oz harness leather in the shop. I had read the other reviews about the blade comming loose in the handle and can see how that might happen as the handle appears to be Ash or some other similar coarse grained light hardwood. Ash is not a particularly strong wood and the blade is not a full tang blade so I would immagine that if you did a lot of heavy material removal from hardwood stock, say carving White Oak, that the handle would loosen readily. The handle is a traditional curved carving handle shape that works best on the draw stroke, which is the way that I use it, and is quite comfortable and large enought to be easily gripped in my X large paws. Overall I am quite pleased with it especially considering the cheap price.

I purchased two Flexcut knives, as well as a number of other items related to chip carving (in an effort to find a hobby). I found these knives to be well made, comfortable to use, and easy to control. The blades held an edge well with only an occasional stropping, but the blades could use a little tune-up at this point (after two wizards in popular and a Santa in basswood).

I just started wood carving and this knife has been very pleasant to work with. It was sharp and ready to go as soon as I openend the package. It makes carving wood really easy.

When I got this knife, it worked decently. The blade itself is sharp and it is pretty comfortable working with it. However, the blade quickly came loose. Within a day or two of using it, the blade came completely out of the handle. I haven't been able to get it to stay in since. So, while the blade works well, the quality of the knife as a whole is pretty cheap.
