And the leash works great and is very sturdy.
S. Nevins
I have walked him once or twice a day for nearly 4 months now using this leash, and can say that it is superior to the others...by far!.

The retractable mechanism works really well - smooth and doesn't tangle.

This is my second leash of this model; my first one wore out after 7 years (inner spring failed). My sole complaint about this model is that it is a bit too small to fit my hand in comfortably all the time, and I have small hands. In the winter, I can only get a couple of fingers through when wearing any gloves.
Nevertheless, for walking my 16-lb. Peke at the same time as my 60-lb. Chow Chow, it's ideal. It gives room for each dog to keep its own pace, but doesn't let my Peke get so far away that I can't rein him in when he gets too feisty with other dogs. The tape is far less likely to burn skin (cord Flexis have scarred me more than once, and more often they belong to others!) and if the mechanism on the last one failed after 7 years of 3-4 walks/day, then I'd say it held up well.

I have a 60 lb lab, who is a puller and has gone through about 5 leashes in 3 years. Her last leash was the medium Flexi retractable leash, which should be good for a dog up to 77 lbs. Other retractable leashes similar to the medium flexi snapped after only a few months of use. We used the flexi leash for well over a year before it started to fray slightly on the side. It is still very sturdy and we likely have months of use left in it (if not more), but I've gone ahead and replaced it with the large version for dogs up to 110 lbs. I would suggest going up a size if you have a dog closer to the upper end of the weight limit who is a puller, but still recommend this leash over any other leash we've tried.

**Update**
Nearly 2 years later and this leash is still going strong! This is definitely the best leash I've found by far.

Love this product! So much better than the cord type flexi leashes that always seem to tangle up and are much harder to untangle than the belt type.

I bought this to replace a regular 6ft leash. I got the medium version rated for 77 pound dogs since my dog is about 50 pounds and likes to pull. The retractable mechanism works really well - smooth and doesn't tangle. The 16-foot length seems just right where the dog has lots of freedom but you are still in full control.

I'm glad I got the all belt version. This protects you from cutting your skin with the thin cord, feels stronger, and in my opinion looks better.

The only problem I have with this product is that the handle is slightly too small for my hand. For reference I'm a 5'11 male. The grip is good size but the opening is a bit too small. It's not a serious issue but could be improved.

About 3/4 the size of the old one we had (for a 75# dog). The old one had tape only for the first few feet, then cord. I liked the old one, yet this one is so much better--lighter, retracts smoothly and quietly. Got it for our new 50# rescue pup, and the only trouble is with it being fairly small, as other reviewers mentioned it is barely big enough for my hands. Love it anyway!

Misc. notes: made in Germany; the "warning" graphics in the instruction booklet are priceless!

My Cavalier ate through our last Flexi Leash, which was the corded one. I decided to try the all belt leash. He loves the freedom that it gives him, as do I. My only complaint was that after we left him with his grandparents while we went on a cruise, we returned to a partially chewed up leash. We are still able to use it, but I thought that the belt would be more resistant to dog chewing. I would definitely recommend this product, but if you have a dog that likes to chew- keep an extra eye on him :)

Now, I know that any trainer would say that these are the absolute worst types of leashes to train a dog on and I agree. they are designed in such a way that when the leash line isn't locked, there is ALWAYS tension on the leash which connects to the dog's collar/harness, which in turn connects to the dog's brain. I have two dogs and use one of these on each (yes, juggling them is difficult). I like the retractable because it allows them to have more room to sniff and the leash rarely gets stuck under their legs and bellies b/c of the retracting design. So, if you have a dog that is already trained to walk on a loose leash, i don't see much harm in these (except that 16 ft is a lot of room for a dog to chase a squirrel and that squirrel might run for the street, so being extremely vigilent is an absolute MUST for this type of leash). If you are still training your dog to walk nicely near you, I would caution against using these. that's just my two cents and it's true that one of my dogs is still working at loose-leash walking and therefore I should NOT be using this type of leash with her, but I absolutely love when we get into a field and i unlock that leash and watch her little heiney turn into a rocket (i do call her back before she hits the end of that 16 feet!).
I really like the fact that this is a full lead rather than a cord leash. however, if the lead twists, the retracting system does get stuck and you have to pull it out REALLY quickly and untwist.
Another word of caution...know your surroundings. it only takes a second for you to stop paying attention and for your dog to end up tangled around a tree, another dog, a small child...etc. If you're using a retractable, put them on a locked, short lead when other people and animals are around.
Wow...i have too much to say. sorry! all in all, i'm glad I bought these leads. They're good for long walks in the field!
