5.0 out of 5 stars Worked great for me, March 23, 2010

I haven't used this as a "regular" webcam, so I can't comment on how well it works that way.

I bought it because we have a critter living in a hole in our front yard, and I wanted to find out what it was. I'd been looking at those cameras (from power tool manufacturers) that are designed to stick through a hole in the wall to find hidden wires, pipes, etc. They seem cool, but they cost $150-$500. So when I saw a webcam at the end of a flexible cable with both infrared and visible light sources built in, all for under $15, I couldn't resist.

For my purpose, it worked fabulously well.

- I attached it to my laptop (inside the house) via a 15 foot USB extension cable
- I attached the camera cable to a piece of wood on top of the hole, and snaked the camera down into position.
- I ran screen recording software on the laptop.

The infrared lights provided plenty of illumination, and the focus on the camera is very easy to adjust. I ended up with crystal clear video of our "tenants." And because it cost so little, I didn't even worry about leaving it out in the rain.

Very cool for the price. I expect to find a lot of other uses for it.

3.0 out of 5 stars For the price it's worth it, October 29, 2010

I needed an IR cam for critter watching. It fills the bill quite well, when I got it to work that is. It works on WinXP and intermittently on Vista. On Win7 Home Premium it never did work, but on Win7 Basic on my netbook it works perfectly. The colors are off a bit in normal room lighting, but in a darkened room the IR really works well. It takes up to a minute for it to transition to IR, but when it does the picture quality is good. It sees across a 10x12 foot completely dark room with no problems. Due to the issues of getting it to work and the inaccurate color in normal lighting, it's only 'ok'. If you want IR exclusively, it's a big thumbs up.

I really like the design of this camera. It's very "flexible" and adaptable. But the camera doesn't actually work for me because it's too old and there aren't recent drivers for it that I can find.
