5.0 out of 5 stars This book is a fun book for kids to read, September 13, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Why Do Flies Eat Doggy Poop? and Other Poems (Hardcover)
I really like this book.It is fun to read, and my friends like it to. My favorite poem is the one about "Barbee".
Tierra

My niece is 10 years old and in a special education class because of a dyslexic learning diability. I had worked with her all summer trying to spark an interest in reading. When we discovered the book, "Why Do Flys eat doggy poop?", she fell in love. Reciting the poems and enjoying their comical content has really sparked an interest in her to read. The poems are easy to read and because she can read them I have seen a boost in her self esteem. She has demanded that I put up a shelf in her room just to display her special book.
Thanks Mr. Lewis

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoy a lesson and laugh with your kids, October 31, 2001
This review is from: Why Do Flies Eat Doggy Poop? and Other Poems (Hardcover)
How to feel like a kid again? Read a story from Why Do Flies Eat Doggy Poop, by Leonard Lewis. I get a chuckle out of just saying the name!

I pulled the book from the shelf and shared it with my three year old nephew who kept saying, read one more...pleeeaaasse. A co-worker's son reads a story every night to his little sister.

I enjoy the book thoroughly and recommend it highly to anyone for a gift, just because or even a learning tool for a classroom.

5.0 out of 5 stars why do flys eat doggy poop?, July 8, 2003
This review is from: Why Do Flies Eat Doggy Poop? and Other Poems (Hardcover)
I recently recieved this charming book as a gift from a special friend for my children. Our usual evening ritual is for my husband to (very begrudgingly) read to our children before bed. My son wanted to here some of the poems in this book. After the first one, through snickers and belly laughs, they read together for almost an entire hour. At my promting is was time for bed with the promise to read the rest tomorrow. I whole- heartedly enjoyed watching and listening to a very well put together assortment of childrens poems. My son (almost 6)thought they were hilarious. My husband thought they were hysterical and my two year old just laughed because everyone else was. Overall I really enjoyed that first night with our new favorite book and have since recommended it to all of my friends with chidren. THANK YOU- AGAIN!!! Mr. Lewis @214

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Yet for Children, January 22, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Why Do Flies Eat Doggy Poop? and Other Poems (Hardcover)
I teach 4th grade. This is the best book I have ever used in my classroom. Both boys and girls love the poems. I read from it almost every day. Both the children and I enjoy the book. What I find especially unique is the number of poems which my class enjoys. Of 31 children there are 17 different favorite poems. I have read many of the poems several times and the response is still laughter. L. W. Lewis has done an amazing job. I have recommended the book to other teachers and purchased copies for my children and my sister's children. It is a great book and I strongly recommend it to anyone who has children (or grandchildren) in grades K-6.

This review is from: Why Do Flies Eat Doggy Poop? and Other Poems (Hardcover)
Out of all the books on our shelves, this is the one my son repeatedly asks for--in fact, I haven't seen this kind of devotion from him since Pokemon. It goes with him to school every day, where he reads to his classmates, and back home again, where he reads to his younger sister. After several months of dining with the poetry and going to sleep with the poetry, and waiting for the school bus with the poetry, I can say in all honesty that this book has staying power. Happily, the poems are as fun for adults as they are for children, and as a former English teacher I see in them much that can educate as well as entertain. They're candid, rhythmic, ironic, and completely unique, engaging children of all ages while teaching them something of both poetry and irony. Few authors seem to understand children like Mr. Lewis, and I know of no other author who's able to perfectly blend the vision of children with the cynicism of adults to create humor that can't help but be remembered.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Scoop on Poop, October 5, 2001
This review is from: Why Do Flies Eat Doggy Poop? and Other Poems (Hardcover)
I was initially drawn to this book (like flies to you know what) by the edgy title and the whimsically compelling black and white illustration on the cover. Once opened, the book doesn't disappoint, it delights. L.W. Lewis does not condescend to children in his writing, he winks at them and gives them credit for having well developed, if slightly askew, senses of humor. I gave my copy as a gift to a child who carries it with her and reads it to her mother in the car -- and they both laugh out loud at poems about agitated kitties, noodles-up-your-nose etiquette, and many other little childhood dramas involving guppies, boogers and puppy dog tails. I'm getting another copy for myself and looking forward to more good work from L.W. Lewis.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, November 25, 2005
This review is from: Why Do Flies Eat Doggy Poop? and Other Poems (Hardcover)
Although the thoughts are a bit strange and outlandish, this book will make everyone laugh and recall their childhood questions and thoughts. For children and adults, ages 3 to 103, this will quickly become your favorite. Pick up a copy and see for yourself.

This review is from: Why Do Flies Eat Doggy Poop? and Other Poems (Hardcover)
This book is hilarious. LW Lewis out shines any other childrens poet writer. Every poem on every page is knee slapping hilarious. Every teacher should read a poem a day to their class. They would become the coolest teacher. EVerytime we finish our work early we all sit quietly in hopes that our teacher will read us a poem. Some of them have a lesson within the funny story.
