5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent story and emotional at one part... lol
I bought this book a long time ago, and set it in my shelf, since after reading 5 pages, I thought it was downright boring. Then 2 weeks ago, I had to go to San Francisco for 3 days in a rented van (it was GIANT...lotsa space to sleep in, LOL). I brought some books in my shelf to ease my boredom. 3.0 out of 5 stars Flight of the Dragon Kyn
Flight of the Dragon Kyn is a lovely fantasy tale of dragons, yet the scores of typographical errors seriously detract and jar what should be a smooth flow of words emerging throughout this published, purchased e book. Had the typos not been so blatantly obvious in this age of spell checking software, this story would have been rated at a much higher level. I will read...

I happened to bring Flight of the Dragon Kyn, which was the first book I read on the van. It was AWESOME and I cried at one part too...LOL. After coming back to Long Beach, I ran to Borders and bought Dragon's milk and Sign of the Dove, which proved not to be as good as Flight of the Dragon Kyn, the book in the trilogy I most enjoyed! A must read for dragon lovers! (And that would be me..?)

5.0 out of 5 stars A good fun read, July 3, 2001
By A Customer
I really enjoyed reading this book. I thought that is was fun and exciting journey though the life of Kara, the first dragon-sayer. She was a wonderful main charater. I think that Susan Fletcher is an excellent author and I loved all three of the books in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the best fantasy book I have ever read!, April 17, 1999

This book was a masterpiece. I think Susan Fletcher is one of the best authors I have stumbled across and it is a pity she hasn't written more books. I just thought it would be an okay book but it rivals The Hobbit and The Chronicles of Narnia as one of the best fantasy stories in the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flight of the Dragon Kyn sweeps you away.., January 12, 1999

In as short a summary of words as I can manage, I would like to say that this book is an awesome, descriptive tale that actually makes you feel as if you're a part of it all. I like to write myself, and this book always gives a confidence boost whenever I get stumped over what to write next. ^_^

5.0 out of 5 stars A hard-to-get, exciting prequal to, "Dragon's Milk"., April 5, 1997
By A Customer
This imaginative book, tells of Kara, a young girl who was taken ill with vermilion fever. She is left for dead in a cave, where she is nursed to health by a dragon. Now with the power to speak to dragons, and call their kyn (birds), she is summoned by a king. This story gives the history of the green-eyed line, before Kaeldra (the main character in "Dragon's Milk). It can be read alone, as it's own story. My suggestion is to read "Dragon's Milk" first. It adds the flavor, Suan Fletcher was aiming for

5.0 out of 5 stars An great story., May 20, 2001
By A Customer
Up until I read this book my thoughts were pretty straight: Dragons=bad, dragon slayers=good. I guess that's a result of reading "the hobbit" at a very young age ( I was seven or eight I think). This book changed all that and I now think dragons are really great. The plot is fab and I understand how Kara felt when she got angry and called the birds (I don't take taunting that well either.) I didn't cry when I read this book like I see others have by reading their reviews, but I did enjoy it alot. If you read "dragon's milk" first like I did you recognize some of the characters as younger children. This realy is a geat book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Flight of the Dragon Kyn, May 8, 2002
By
Chris (Cerritos, CA USA) - See all my reviews
The story starts off when Kara, a teenage girl, is taken, by the king's men, to King Orrik for a mission she must accomplish for him. He needs her powers. Kara possesses the ability to call down birds. Believing birds and dragons are alike as kin, King Orrik oders Kara to get rid of the dragons that have been causing havoc to society. Throughout the book, Kara makes several friends, especially with a very special falcon, who each do their part in helping her out. In her journey, Kara calls down the dragon that once brought her back to life when she was thought to be dead in her childhood due to an illness. Kara later encounters more dragons and, later, devises a plan to allow these dragons to move away and settle somewhere so that both species, humans and dragons, will live comfortably. Kara faces more conflicts as the story goes on further. In the end, though, her plan succeeds, and peace is established. Kara, herself, lives happily ever after.
I would greatly recommend this book to anyone. It is action-packed, adventurous, and bulging with suspense. The great description allows you to take part in the story. The story mixes mystical creatures, special powers, and ordinary people in this one fantastic book.
My utmost favorite part of the story is when Kara encounters a cave full of dragons. She actually speaks to these magical creatures. I almost thought the dragons were fierce enough to harm Kara, but I saw that they were gentle, caring, and protective of other fellow dragons. The book is great!

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than the First Book, January 29, 2007
By
I enjoyed this second book of the Dragon Chronicles more than the first for several reasons.

Susan Fletcher does very well with the first-person narrative of Kara, and the language used by the character makes the story all the move believable. Its a more intelligent read than the first book, with a more interesting range of vocabulary. Also, Kara as a charcter is much more interesting to read about than Kaeldra. Kara's pride and her fears, and even her hypocracy at times, make her a real human being. And what's more, she has a fire-cracker temper that I found refreshing after reading about the ho-hum, stick-in-the-mud Kaeldra.

In this second book, there is a bigger cast of characters and Fletcher does well to make sure these people all have personalities of their own. (The first book, had more character 'types',and less characters with personalities.)

I agree, the book's main relationship is a little stale. It wouldn't have been if we had not seen a similar build up in "Dragon's Milk"'s major relationship. If they had not been mirror images of the same stormy and mistrusting courtship then I would have been much more entertained.

All and all, "Flight of the Dragon Kyn" was a better written book with a more interesting array of charcters. Well worth the read.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Gift, November 3, 2003
By A Customer
A Review by Jessica

One day log ago a girl named Kara got Vermillion fever and almost died, but a dragon saved her. This book takes place many years after this incidence. The thing is that Kara remembers nothing that happened. The only things that remind her of the dragon is a name, Flagra, which she screamed in the middle of the night and the gift of being able to call birds down from the sky. A king named Orrick sends for her to come to him, and she dose. What Kara doesn't know is he wants her to call down dragons. The Problem is that Kara has never seen a dragon let alone call one down from the sky. Kara and a group of warriors go out to seek dragons. Kara calls for Flagra and she comes what she doesn't know it that the men are going to kill this dragon, the one that saved her life. As the dragon becomes visible the arrows rise to the deep blue sky and they shoot.

In this book I really enjoyed the suspense and adventure. The main character, Kara tells this story in first person. Susan Fletcher is a great author. One thing I like in her books is there is a little hidden love story within them. There is one in this book. It is between Kara and one of the king's men named Kazan. I also like the extreme detail that Susan Fletcher uses. An example of detail is when she describes a falcon she calls. Kara says, "I steeped back startled, the gray falcon screamed, tightened her grip on my hand. One wing clouted my head, and then she was flying." The vocabulary in this book is not too hard but not to easy. I also found the dialogue to be very easy to follow.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good adventure with suspense and action. It's a real great read! This book keeps you in the edge of your seat the whole time your reading it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great to read again and again!, October 28, 2002
By
All three books in the Dragon Chronicles series are wonderful, but this one is definitely my favorite.
Written in first person through Kara, Susan Fletcher bring everything around her to life. Through all of your senses, you constantly have a vivid mental image of Kara's ordeals and emotions.
Throughout all of Kara's decisions, like whether she should leave home to help the king, or continue to call down dragons, the author always has us thinking "What would I decide if I was in her shoes?"
Another plus in almost all books of Susan Fletcher, there is a small, underlying love story. All of Kara's friendships she made along the way, show that even through adversity and hardship, companionship always makes things better.

Not only do I strongly recommend this book, but I can be sure in saying that if you like this book, you will want to read it over and over again!
