Book Description

October 2001
What could a computer expert, a mercenary with admitted sadistic tendencies, a cashiered U.S.A.F. officer and a world-famous astrophysicist possibly have in common? Courage!

They are each prepared to sacrifice life, fortune and sacred honor to free their nation from the grip of tyranny. To accomplish this, they must attempt the impossible. If they fail, the streets of their nation will run red with blood.

If they succeed, they will die millions of miles from their home.

The time is the near future. The United States is suffering in the grip of a fanatical and repressive theocracy that seems to jump right off the pages of today’s newspapers. While the rest of the world mourns the end of greatness, some very human scientists find a unique and daring solution . . .

The art of resistance can take many forms.

About the Author

Kathryn A. Graham is a military veteran and holds current aviation licenses as a pilot, an aircraft mechanic, and a ground instructor. She is licensed as owner and manager of her own private investigations firm in South Texas and has made a number of fugitive arrests. She is also certified by the Texas Department of Public Safety as a concealed handgun instructor and teaches classes on the legal and ethical uses of force under Texas Law.

As an experienced aviation consultant and also a security professional, her business has been at the forefront of the events following the terrible tragedies of September 11th of this year. In association with another security company owned by John G. Tarsikes, Jr. (Safetynet Associates), she is currently developing courses for frequent commercial air travelers on various safe and effective ways to counter aircraft hijackings. “Mostly, it’s about attitude adjustment,” she admits with a grin. “For both passengers and hijackers. I think the next idiot to try it will be in for one hell of a surprise.”

Ms. Graham has recently undertaken the job of Texas Director for Armed Females of America and is becoming known as a political activist, having written a number of recent articles on the Second Amendment, firearms, self-defense, the use of force, and many other subjects, including the now famous “10 Principles of Resistance,” available for free download from several locations on the Internet.

Kris had fallen forward onto the pavement, lying between the two bodies. She wasn't moving. Eric jerked her into a sitting position without a thought for her injured arm and shook her. Her right hand fell from her mouth, and her yelp of pain and protest was sweet music to him. "Kris! Did you–?"

Kris looked down at her hand, her eyes dazed, and forced the clenched fingers to relax. The deadly little capsule fell to the pavement. "It was in my mouth, you idiot," she whispered. "You almost made me—” She shuddered. "—bite down. Did it? Am I–?"

Eric snatched her to her feet. "You're okay," he assured her. "Or you would know it by now.” He glanced up to see several men darting from the building. "Pull yourself together," he added. "We haven't time for this."

Eric steadied her as she started on a wavering run toward the Baron. He got behind her and shoved her onto the right wing. She climbed in and took left seat. Eric gestured the stranger toward the rear seats, then followed him in and took right seat. He kept a wary eye on Kris as she started her engines. She was very pale still and tears streaked her cheeks. Eric stole a glance behind them. Four men were running toward the Baron, but they were still over a hundred yards away.

"I'll take it," he told Kris. "Try to relax for a bit."

Kris shook her head, never looking up. "No. I have to keep us below radar all the way. Under fifty feet.” She glanced at Eric then and saw his expression. "I know I'm crying, Eric. It's just physical. I can ignore it. Do the same."

4.0 out of 5 stars Cautionary Sci-Fi tale about an America we don't want to see, February 12, 2002
This review is from: Flight from Eden (Paperback)
Taking a cue from Margaret Atwood's A Handmaids Tale, novice writer Kathryn Graham has crafted an entertaining yet cautionary sci-fi thriller in Flight from Eden. Graham's protagonist Dr Kris Garrick is a talented young pilot and noted astrophysicist who has gone into hiding after a Taliban style movement sweeps over the United States. Along with a few other top scientists Dr Garrick leads a resistance movement that plans on overthrowing the brutal totalitarian government by revealing the truth behind their barrage of anti-science dogma. Their mission is perilous and if it fails will lead to their execution as traitors, yet their reward would free their fellow citizens and push mankind toward a new age. Flight From Eden skillfully blends current events and science fact with a little science fiction, allowing the reader to view a society that we may see if we let our guard down. Graham's writing is well paced and her characters are developed very well, a great first novel and one I will enjoy reading again

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful story, October 23, 2003
This review is from: Flight from Eden (Paperback)
Set in the near future, the United States is suffering in the grip of a fanatical and repressive theocracy. The people are blinded to the truth. Freedom is no longer part of the Constitution!

A computer expert, a mercenary with admitted sadistic tendencies, a cashiered U.S.A.F. officer, a doctor, and a world-famous astrophysicist have joined forces to create an underground movement. They would give their lives, if need be, to free the nation from the grip of tyranny. If they fail, millions will die. If they succeed, they will die millions of miles from their homes.

**** This is an incredible piece of work! The reader is not given all the information up front. However, the action and suspense keeps the reader glued as everything becomes apparent. I am unable to tell much about the story without giving away vital parts of the plot. Therefore, most of what is written in the synopsis above is from the back of the book. But never believe that there is not more going on than meets the eye in this dramatic sci-fi epic. Wonderful story! ****

3.0 out of 5 stars Flight From Eden (Excellent Novel), February 1, 2002
This review is from: Flight from Eden (Paperback)
For my money i dont know if i could have read a better book. This book is the best i have read this millenium. Outstanding story line, smooth flow of events and extremely understandable even though this is a technical sci-fi. I am used to reading three or four books at a time and the transition from one to another is a bit choppy, with this book you pick up right where you left off, that is, if you can even put the book down.
