It's a great story! I enjoyed reading it. It has adventure and suspense, which are likely to hold a kid's attention. It's also realistic. The divorce/step family is good, too, since so many kids have to endure this; they can relate. It's nice that it's just 86 pages; poor readers are extremely intimidated by "big books." This is a good selling point; it can give them a sense of accomplishment/success.
