Book Description

January 2, 2012
A true account of the author's journey through mental illness and alcoholism brought on through an abusive upbringing that included her loss of a parent at an early age, physical, mental and sexual abuse at the hands of relatives, and her own encounters with mental illness within the family. This highly detailed narrative takes the reader on a journey through decades of dealing with the effects of the abuse, but ultimately seeking survival, recovery, reconciliation, and eventual triumph. For those experiencing a similar type of pain, "Flight Into Sanity" will leave the reader with a promise of hope. The author discovers that human beings have the ability to heal from unbelievable pain and suffering. However, this healing does not come easy. There is much hard work, possibly additional pain and suffering, and the re-experiencing of events. This healing cannot be achieved in a vacuum. The author describes how she reached out for help and was able to get that through people that she trusted. Today, the author is able to reflect back on her experiences and share her story in the hope that a light will shine for others on their path to healing and recovery.

Sara's book is proof that healing is possible even when one has endured tragedy and trauma. She is honest about her experiences, and her recovery process. She tells how she persevered and made a life for herself in spite of the horrors of her childhood. For people who suffer from addiction, suicidal thoughts, or childhood trauma, Sara is an inspiration!

4.0 out of 5 stars courage in the face of adversity, February 15, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Flight Into Sanity: A Memoir of Recovery (Paperback)
I found this to be an amazing memoir of perseverance, strength and personal courage in the face of a troubled, abusive childhood. The author says her goal is to provide hope to others who are recovering from trauma that it is possible to heal. I think she has succeeded admirably by sharing her journey.
