Great electro!,

This review is from: Flight (Lux) (Audio CD)
Garnering much success with his band Seabound, vocalist Frank Spinath has teamed up with Mario Schumacher to create the side project Edge of Dawn. The duo's first release, The Flight [Lux] EP, is an incredible blend of intelligent electro. Frank's thought provoking lyrics and seductive voice keeps you thinking while Mario's intricate programming keeps you dancing. From the fast paced title track to the ballad "Descent," each track easily stands on its own merits. The catchy melodies and vocals will be stuck in your heads for days. One of THE best side projects of any band, Edge of Dawn will be around for a very long time - much like Front Line Assembly's Delerium project.

I've been a fan of the members of Seabound for years and picked up this little treasure back in 2005 after I heard Elegance for the first time via EBM club one night. Lux holds amazing beats, riffs, and lush synths by Frank M. Spinath. Lux is absolutely for anyone that craves old school synthpop and traditional EBM structured songs of yester-decades of 80's and early 90's. After Lux's 6 year debut, you still hear Elegance & Losing Ground played at the local clubs here in my area. From EBM newbs to EBM veterans like myself, you will find something to love about Lux.

A good introduction to Edge of Dawn,
This review is from: Flight (Lux) (Audio CD)
As a fan of Seabound, I always wanted to check out Edge of Dawn, the side project of Frank Spinath. In the end I ended up buying THE FLIGHT [LUX] EP. THE FLIGHT consists of 3 new songs and 6 remixes of 3 different tracks. I certainly could hear a bit of Seabound in the beats but the music is darker and harsher especially in Frank's vocals. The title track is a great example of the dark, harsh terroritory Frank and Mario Schumacher goes with Edge of Dawn. There is still quite a bit of synthpop flavor in the songs especially in songs like "Losing Ground" and "Elegance". I don't think Frank wanted to totally alienate any Seabound fans with this group by completely ditching his synthpop roots. The remixes for "Losing Ground", "The Flight [Lux]", and "Descent" were okay but they didn't do much for me. I don't know if it was necessary to include a remix for all three songs. One or two would have been suitable. The music wasn't nearly as melodic as Seabound therefore the cd took a bit of time to grow on me. Still I am glad that I checked out Edge of Dawn's music.
