Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Prolific songwriter, journalist, and TV screenwriter Bonta turns to the novel and creates an auspicious, genre-bending parable that splices together quantum physics, crazy coincidences, the sf convention scene, and true love. Intrepid interdimensional space traveler Aira Flight is the heroine of writer Mendle Orion's award-winning novels and also the object of his most cherished fantasies. When a naked, amnesiac woman appears in his hotel room during an sf convention, Mendle rejoices that his faith in the power of love and cosmic coincidence has magically brought Aira to life. His ex-girlfriend, however, questions his already dubious sanity and investigates the girl's true identity. Yet as Aira's memory returns, so does her power, as the unlimited-energy being Mendle envisioned, to teach all those around her to create their own realities. Bonta's storytelling skills transform an outlandish New Age premise into a refreshing send-up of sf stereotypes that, remarkably, also works as an inspiring romantic adventure. Carl Hays

Review

A science fiction writer's invented space character seemingly becomes real when the isolated man faces a very similar real woman with amnesia. An ex-girlfriend probes the newcomer's background and the roots of her boyfriend's madness and finds some shocking truths in this complex quasi-science fiction novel. -- Midwest Book Review

A very interesting novel where quantum physics meets human relationships at the crossroads of dreams and reality. -- Harriet Klausner, A Guide For Avid Readers 3/26/98

Best look at the quantum physics universe since the Professor Q books of Trevor Hoyle. Great work. -- Book Browser March 26, 1998

Fascinating novel...impeccable plot... Bonta touches huge philosophical and physics issues...as no novel has so skillfully addressed and accomplished. -- Professor Antonio Lucchi

Flight is absolutely the beginning of the end of trite, simplistic stories that have followed the same blueprint for ages. -- Timeless Voyager Radio, Bruce Stephen Holms

Tremendous heart, wisdom, wit. Most remarkable is [Bonta's] ability to pierce dauntingly impenentrable universal mysteries with such serene comprehension. -- Philip Proctor, Firesign Theater

Whatever 'Quantum Fiction' is we need more of it...

quirky ... hilarious ... believable relationships Bonta spins... sex scenes are particularly moving. -- PUBLISHERS WEEKLY June 1995

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought-provoking, deep, can't-put-it-down-type book, May 21, 1998
This review is from: Flight: A Quantum Fiction Novel (Hardcover)
What a delicious book. I felt totally a part of the story, as if I was Aira. Vanna has done such a beautiful job of combining an interesting fiction story, with mind-probing ideas. This book truly makes one think, and feel, and hope, and aspire to be who we really are. Brava, Vanna.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most plausible mind-bending conspiracy I have ever read!, November 30, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Flight: A Quantum Fiction Novel (Hardcover)
Flight was an easy read with huge aftershock value. The way characters are used to illustrate the conflict of body-sensation versus soul is simply ingenious. It was refreshing to read something that didn't use the dense grotesque wavelength to create effect. Instead, it was loaded with clever wit. It seems to shed light onto the origin of man and clarifies what has been obscured by misunderstandings of physical reality. This is a truly original work that introduced new words and concepts to surpass existing limitations of written and oral language.

Flight, is a work of wonder and a treat for the soul. The depth by which these characters come to be knownis so subtle and yet the full impact is brought full circle as the book closes. Vanna Bonta has given us a dream, one that can come true, of world unity. With time, effort, heart and soul we can reach to each other and begin the reality. We can be free from so many things in this world. This is a book to read over and over, to find solace and comfort in, to touch the heart with an eye to being the best we can be.
