5.0 out of 5 stars Thought-provoking, deep, can't-put-it-down-type book
What a delicious book. I felt totally a part of the story, as if I was Aira. Vanna has done such a beautiful job of combining an interesting fiction story, with mind-probing ideas. This book truly makes one think, and feel, and hope, and aspire to be who we really are. Brava, Vanna.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interestingly different...
Vanna Bonta's Flight is definitely in a class - and genre - of its own. Falling under the category of what Bonta calls "quantum fiction", the story that unravels is both science fiction and fantasy. The discussion of particles, alternate realities and the like is so prominent in the text that it almost feels like an entertaining lesson in quantum physics.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most plausible mind-bending conspiracy I have ever read!, November 30, 1998
By A Customer
Flight was an easy read with huge aftershock value. The way characters are used to illustrate the conflict of body-sensation versus soul is simply ingenious. It was refreshing to read something that didn't use the dense grotesque wavelength to create effect. Instead, it was loaded with clever wit. It seems to shed light onto the origin of man and clarifies what has been obscured by misunderstandings of physical reality. This is a truly original work that introduced new words and concepts to surpass existing limitations of written and oral language.

Flight, is a work of wonder and a treat for the soul. The depth by which these characters come to be knownis so subtle and yet the full impact is brought full circle as the book closes. Vanna Bonta has given us a dream, one that can come true, of world unity. With time, effort, heart and soul we can reach to each other and begin the reality. We can be free from so many things in this world. This is a book to read over and over, to find solace and comfort in, to touch the heart with an eye to being the best we can be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Expert, Eloquent, Timeless - Not for the Dumb, June 10, 2011
This review is from: Flight: A Quantum Fiction Novel (Paperback)
Do "Bestseller" book lists lead us to the best books, or lowest common denominator? To its credit, Publishers Weekly back in 1995 presciently reviewed "Whatever 'quantum fiction is, we need more of it." Since then, by its own power, the book that incited annual synchronized global celebrations since 2000 and leaves a wake of love and wonder. Flight was highlighted in 2010 on The Universe (History Channel); the series followed Bonta into zero gravity to test her inventions and contemplate of life on other planets. In a bizarre metaphor of reality itself, a television premiere of humankind's first expectant mother in a space station depicted her reading none other than Flight: a quantum fiction novel, by Vanna Bonta. (The Universe, Sex in Space).

Granted, Bonta's poetic prose gets above high school normal level (even more difficult for the audio book) but is well worth the effort of following this little gem only for the beauty of the language ride. This is not a book for the less bright. Back in 1996 when first published, it postulated things that are now in the news: black holes on he other side of quasars, life a pan-dimensioned multiverse, and more. Expert plot with mysteries that all neatly wrap up in the end, eloquence and humor make Flight an entertaining masterpiece and earn Bonta literary wings above the crowd.

I found Flight to be enlightening, fascinating and something I can believe in. There is so muchreality to this fiction. Basic needs, desires and dreams are all part of this book. I loved it. I found the character of Aira Flight enchanting and Mendle Orion uplifting and inspirational. It's one of those books that makes you think, but also makes you feel so good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful Writing, May 20, 2002
I loved this book! Only the real thing inspires the kind of passion "Flight Quantum Fiction" does...both kinds of passion: 1) constant new readers such as myself who discover and love this unforgettable story and, 2) writhing hatred from an obvious few, trying green-faced hard to make fun of it and brign it down. I heard envy gives people conniptions. Saleri went rabidly insane in the face of Mozart, others revelled in the inspired music Mozart effortlessly flowed. This book was a great find for me. As an engineer, I'm not easily impressed, but took the recommendation from some colleagues in the Space Program. I couldn't put it down. Bonta is the real thing in a world gone cold. It's pathetic some can't forgive her for genius. Rave on. This book contains a riveting plot, innovative writing and many nuances that merit more than one time through. It contains the shortest chapter in the recorded history of literature (one word). The spacing and design with which Bonta has designed the "FLIGHT" chapters in harmony with the story's theme of Time & Space is brilliant. Each chapter (that begins with a position on a clock) has its own pace, with the overall rhythm of the book speeding up to the end's final countdown. Not only fun or inspiring, the story is brilliantly executed and intrigues me from a purely engineering standpoint. This is a book to own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flight - A book to recharge the weary soul, March 3, 2008
This review is from: Flight: A Quantum Fiction Novel (Paperback)
I happened upon Flight by chance, or did I ? The universe plays all kinds of cosmic tricks. What I found in this story was a character who was very much like me. Weary from a long time of being misunderstood and ridiculed for thinking the impossible possible. With each page I became more and more drawn into this delicate balance between science and fiction.

Metaphors for life, and lessons that have taken mankind thousands of years to learn, spill out of this book and into the reader's mind like water to a thirsty imagination. My favorite point of all is love and how powerful it is as a force for creation and connection in the Universe.

This book is on the top of the list of novels I regularly recommend to my friends. Especially those struggling with their existence in the physical world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quantum Fiction Genre, January 21, 2008
By
Edward Kaminski (Chicago, IL United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Flight: A Quantum Fiction Novel (Paperback)
Quantum reality can be defined as the physical properties and behaviors present at the sub-atomic level. It is a bizarre world of probabilities, where particles routinely pop in and out of existence, react with one another simultaneously with no regard to distance, and appear to be at once a particle and a wave assuming one form or the other depending on how it is measured. It is a world where the impossible can seem routine, coincidences are to be expected, and common sense is of no use whatsoever.

We may not notice quantum reality, or recognize it in our everyday existence, but it is there, happily abiding by its own rules, a very real part of the universe around and within us. It is in fact, the air that we breathe, the chair that we sit on, and the "stuff" we are made of.

But what if we were able to sense these quantum effects? What if we woke up one morning to find that our common sense could no longer be relied upon to define our own realities? What if we could expect literally anything?

Author Vanna Bonta (and others) has answered these questions by pioneering a new genre of literature she calls Quantum Fiction. As Ms. Bonta says, this is "literature that... involves the view of reality as a multi-dimensional experience in which reality is subjectively seen and uncertainly known."

Quantum Fiction is bound by the properties of quantum mechanics, as opposed to Fantasy or Science Fiction where there are no necessary boundaries based in reality. While at first glance this may appear limiting, in truth, Quantum Fiction has the ability to inspire us precisely because it is exposing us to a very real, physical property of our own universe. And this physical property is mind blowing.

According to Ms. Bonta, "In quantum fiction adventures things like coincidences, synchronicity, telepathy, deja vu, and an assortment of odd experiences that have been formerly the realm of the paranormal can now - at least theoretically - be explained by a new look at the physical world."

Quantum Fiction characters are able to gain an insight into concepts that in our world, we have words for, but cannot understand. These are things we can feel, but not truly comprehend. Can any of us define such things as time, soul, or consciousness? Quantum Fiction puts forth that in a world where we were able to access the quantum mechanic reality woven into our own existence, we would begin to appreciate these feelings as tangible, and as such discover new ways, and reasons, to interact.

Ms. Bonta says, "My theory has always been that the real plot in fiction parallels life in that it happens within the characters. Essentially events, time, forms, all propel the inner plot within each of us. And at the end of a person's life that's what they are looking at. What happened inside? How did that experience change me, and how did I change it? That's essentially what quantum fiction is, it's what quantum theory defines as a realm."

And this makes for a unique entertaining and insightful genre of fiction.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Modern Fable, of Humor and Wisdom, June 15, 2011
The Characters in the book are unforgettable. From Aira Flight, the super girl that is oh so human, to Mendle Orion, a guy who wants a woman for her soul, to Onx, the dragon dog, oh I really want a dragon dog now. The characters and plot kept me guessing until the end. The humor mixed with the quotable wisdom on almost every page supports the theme of the book. The book design is outstanding, for example each chapter is set up as minutes on a clock and the end of the book, is the count down. Exciting read, a real escape into another world yet holds to associated reality and wisdom for our own world. Sometimes the style is fairy tale like and the language is formal, but I think the author was going for that. Hence it's a modern fable.

Found this book for as little at $12.00 and as much as $179.00 why? It would have been nice to get it for my Kindle.
