5.0 out of 5 stars A *FANTASTIC* Movie!!
I have loved this movie since it first came to the theatre. I must have seen it at least twelve times in the theatres. After I watched the movie at the theatre I simply had to have the soundtrack. At the time I only bought cassettes, so I got the Flintstones cassette. Just yesterday, I bought the Flintstones soundtrack on CD. When the movie came out on VHS I bought it. I...

1.0 out of 5 stars This is not The Flinstones!
This was another reason to sell Happy Meals. I love the Flinstones, and have seen proabably all the episodes ever made, and this movie is NOT the way the Flinstones were meant to be. Contrary to its modern day portrayal as a kids show, it was not originally made for kids. It aired in prime time and was very much for adults. The comparison of the Flintstones as the...

I plan on buynig the DVD.

Rick Moranis is one of my all time favorite actors. He was a fantastic at playing Barney Rubble. Barney was always my favorite character.

A few years ago, when I went to Orlando, Florida I got to see the actual Flintstones car, and some of the other props from the film. Naturally, I had to have pictures taken of them.

If you haven't seen this film I suggest going to your local Blockbuster and renting it. You won't be disapointed.

I thought this movie would be terrible, but when i saw it I loved it. It was very funny. I also like Rosie Odonnell as Betty. John Goodman was a good Fred,Elizibeth Perkins was a wonderful Wilma, and Rick Moranis was very good as Barney. But my favorite charactar is the dicta-bird.

4.0 out of 5 stars A 'Cute' Film, May 22, 2009

This is what you'd call a "cute" movie, the cuteness mainly being the funny takeoff on objects, such as regular household appliances, that you see in here caveman-era-style. Most of those are prehistorical creatures having to perform the tasks of cleaning, but they are clever and funny to watch. In fact, there are so many of them it's tough to catch all of them. It would take a number of viewing to fully appreciate all the visuals in here.

When I first saw this, I expected a really stupid movie. I had enjoyed but not been a big fan of the animated "Flintsones" series on TV, and thought this would be more of the same except with real actors. Actually, it was much better and had a surprisingly good cast for such a lightweight cartoon comedy.

I mean, who would expect a big star like Elizabeth Taylor to be in this movie? She had the funniest lines, too, I thought. Her put-downs of poor "Fred" (the rotund John Goodman is perfectly cast) included lines such as, "the only good thing you provide for my daughter is shade." This is quite an eclectic cast with the likes of Taylor, Goodman, Rick Moranis, Rosie O'Donnell, Elizabeth Perkins, Kyle MacLaughlan and Halle Berry.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun Movie, April 15, 2011
This review is from: The Flintstones (Collector's Edition) (DVD)
I love this movie. John Goodman is one of my favorite actors, both he and Rick Moranis are a hoot. This is just a fun movie and one of the TV show revivals that actually worked. The Brian Levant productions always seem to be a smash.

What can be said about a live-action cartoon that features Elizabeth Taylor, Johnathan Winters and the B(C)-52s? Only this: Yabba Dabba Do!

This delightfully stupid and silly expression of the hit cartoon from the early '60s is particularly well cast regarding Fred and Barney. After all, lovable big lunk John Goodman and SCTV great Rick Moranis look remarkably like their respective characters even before makeup. (If only Moranis could have worn contacts to give him Little Orphan Annie pupil-free eyes. Oh well.)

There's no shortage of stone-age versions of modern conveniences, and lines such as passengers on an in-flight pterdactyl being told, "And the Grand Canyon will be on your right ... in about 15,000,000 years." Elizabeth Taylor's best line is likely (speaking in disapproval to her daughter Wilma), "And when I think of all the sacrifices your father made for you - goats, oxen. Your brother Jerry."

The movie starts and ends just like the cartoon did, with the upbeat theme song in tact (BTW, have you ever noticed that the Flintstones theme and the Jetsons theme are completely interchangeable? Try it.) The movie-within-a-movie twist actually added some kind of existential everyman something or other to the story. Maybe. Could be, anyway.

A welcome diversion from way too cool.

4.0 out of 5 stars flintstones, meet the flintstones!, September 16, 2011

This review is from: The Flintstones (Collector's Edition) (DVD)
Well after 17 years, I finally watched the Flintstones movie. The reason I put it off for so many years is because -despite mildly enjoying the cartoon- I thought the whole concept looked WAY too silly to make into a "fantasy meets reality" so to speak. And... it *is* too silly, haha.

There's actually two reasons I'm not giving in and awarding a 5-star rating to this film. One is that it features Rosie O'Donnell as Betty. WHAT? That's like the worst idea ever! I think Halle Berry should have been Betty. Someone who's extremely attractive needed to fit that role. I was definitely surprised when I seen Rosie wearing that blue outfit instead of someone who's extremely beautiful. I mean no disrespect to Rosie who's probably a good actress, but she's ENTIRELY inappropriate for this particular role.

As always, Rick Moranis proves that going into early retirement was a horrible idea, because his portrayal of Barney is spot-on fantastic! His facial expressions always seemed extremely funny to me, and he continues his hilarious ways once again whenever his Barney character and Fred get into a jam. A major highlight.

Fred being played by John Goodman is another pretty good idea, though honestly he's not one of my favorite actors. He plays a really clueless guy without a lick of common sense... just like the way Fred's character *should* be portrayed.

I guess Wilma is pretty normal, though I expected her to be more exciting and upbeat than what we get.

I'm definitely surprised at the list of popular actors and actresses who starred in the Flintstones, further surprising me with the incredible amount of famous depth that was involved in the creation of this movie. Elizabeth Taylor? For real?

I liked how the movie producers really went out of their way to make a believable looking Flintstones world. It looks like it was made somewhere in the Grand Canyon.

Oh, and let me mention the second reason I'm not giving the Flintstones 5 stars. I just didn't find it very funny for the most part. The movie is written in a way where everyone tries so hard to match the cartoon in presentation and characterization that the writers forgot to include actual laughs! Now there's obviously a few exceptions but this is surprising to me. I chalk it up to the fact it's 1994 and back in those days movies representing real people portraying a cartoon wasn't as popular then as it is now so perhaps the writers just didn't know how to work with such an idea.

With that said however, I suppose releasing a Flintstones movie in 1994 was a good thing as far as the animal characters go. The way it looks with what appears to be puppets portraying Dino and other animals is a LOT more appropriate than say, the way the Scooby Doo movies appeared (with a cartoon Scooby being shown in a real world). I like the Scooby Doo movies, but this is without a doubt more appropriate for the Flintstones. The animals *needed* to look the way they do in order to pull off any believability whatsoever. I like this aspect of the Flintstones quite a bit but admittedly this was my biggest concern.

Overall, had the Flintstones set out to create some solid laughs, I would have been much happier. As it stands, it's definitely fun and exciting to watch, but don't expect to find yourself rolling around on the floor laughing hysterically because it ain't gonna happen, bubs!

This is just a fun popcorn movie that you can watch and just zone out. It's a good tranfer from cartoon to live action. John Goodman always plays cool characters with alot of heart. He's really good in Stella as well. I also love Rosie O'Donnels giggle as Betty. It's weird that Elizabeth Taylor is also in this film. You would'nt expect to see her name underneath The Flintstones title. Yabba Dabba Do!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A FEEL GOOD MOVIE!, September 18, 2003
This review is from: The Flintstones - DTS (DVD)
I love The Flintstones, in any shape or form that I can see them. I remember wonderful memories of watching them on TV with my children and now with my grandchildren and I was delighted when the movie came out, I was not disappointed!
John Goodman is great as Fred, rough around the edges but yet
quite loveable! The casting was great, the scenery was great, everything about this movie was just plain fun! That is what it's all about and what it should be about! Fred gets in trouble, Barney bails him out! Simple! Fun! Entertaining!

I can't not believe that was Rick Moranis as Barney Rubble. And I'll give you a good reason. Where's his glasses? I saw me wearing glasses in Honey We Shrunk Ourselves. And I'm sure that he wear glasses in the other Honey movies. I aslo have glasses on my face. As the movie opens, Fred Flintstone (John Goodman) has secrtly lent Barney Rubble (Rick Moranis) money so he and his wife Betty Rubble (Rosie O'Donnell) can adpot a kid. But when Fred's wife Wilma (Elizabeth Perkins) wants to buy a new garbage pig, and finds thier savings account empty. She questions Fred about it. And Fred says "I gave it to Barney."
