SAMi's work is graphically bold and very playful! He collects Japanese toys, and his artwork reflects their influence. His favorite book is the Pantone color selector and his favorite breakfast cereal is Lucky Charms.

This is a fun book because it has holes or cut outs in the pages that reveal something on the facing page. When you turn the page with the cut out, the color and/or shapes you saw showing through the hole are part of the illustration on the underneath page. For example, on the cover there is an illustration of a tiger and there is a cut out on the tiger's face in approximately an oval shape, right where his eyes would be. The tiger's black eyes are actually printed on the next page, which is the title page. (You can't tell there is a cut out on the cover from the picture on Amazon.) When you open the cover, the title page reveals that the tiger's eyes are also eyes for a human face!

Besides the fact that the cut outs throughout the book reveal surprises when you turn the page, toddlers and preschoolers love to have holes in the pages to put their finger through to turn the page!

The other great feature about this book is that it teaches TWO concepts in a fun way. It not only teaches about the concepts big and little, but it also teaches about the parts of a face--eyes, nose, etc. It shows big and little eyes for an animal, and then a stylized human face with eyes. The author used a different animal for each face part, big and little. For example, an owl is illustrated for big eyes, and a chicken for little eyes, and, then it shows the human face with eyes. As the story continues, there is a new animal for each face part, big and little, and the human face keeps getting additional parts--eyes, nose, mouth, etc. By the time the book is finished, the human face shows "two eyes, a mouth, a nose, two ears, and teeth." From this book, my son learned the parts of his face! And in a fun way!!

I highly recommend this book!

I gave a set of these as Baby Shower gift because I wanted something the older sister(4 years) could "read" to the new baby. Everyone loved them

This book is worth the money! The cutouts on each page keep my child's interest, and she doesn't seem to notice that we're learning parts of the face, animals, counting and colors all in one. She received this at about 1 year old, and now at almost 2 yrs old it's still one of her favorites.
