About the Author

Yvonne Manette Batot has always been fascinated with the study of language. As a young girl she often visited the library with her mother to read books written in any foreign language she could get her hands on. Yvonne later pursued her passion for language by earning a BA in Linguistics at the University of Texas at Austin. After receiving her MA in Sociology, Yvonne worked as an English teacher for the Texas Public School system and also taught English as a Second Language in Szombathely, Hungary. Following her dream of studying language and experiencing different cultures, Yvonne, her husband and two children have lived in various cities in France, Switzerland, Ireland, the United States and Canada. Madame Batot and Sra. Gose teamed up after the release of Flip Flop Spanish when it became apparent that young children were thirsting for a teaching tool with French as a target language as well as Spanish. They have enjoyed a growing friendship through the project of studying and tweaking every detail in this proven curriculum for children and their parents.

More About the Author

Señora Gose (1976-present) was born in Dallas, Texas and enjoyed discovering other languages at a very early age. After studying abroad in Spain as part of her schooling in University, she returned home to teach Spanish in the Public Schools for several years. When her first child was born, motherhood called her home, but she missed teaching and began offering her own private classes. Unable to find useful Spanish curriculum that was engaging for her age range of students (ages 3 and up), Señora wrote her own weekly lessons.

As more and more families asked for copies of the lessons, Flip Flop Spanish was born. She continues to teach Spanish to their own five children as well as hundreds of other homeschooling and public schooling students each year in Central Texas, and looks forward to adding more helpful workbooks and foreign language tools to the Flip Flop Language Series.

Her own experiences with learning a foreign language helps her to remain patient and positive that every student who wants to learn Spanish, can. "We just have to find the method that's best for that brain!" Students continually test and give feedback on every worksheet, activity, and lesson plan before the Flip Flop Spanish series ever goes to press. She prides herself on only publishing proven techniques that are fun, rewarding, and effective.

As a former French student, a parent, and teacher; I found Flip Flop French to be a useful curriculum for teaching French to a young child. The lessons are easily taught by someone with no (or limited) knowledge of the French language. The "sounds like" sections and CD for pronunciation are very useful. The lessons are very kid friendly, with fun activities. You are not just "talking at" your child while you do the lesson. They are actually working through it with you. My daughter is only two, but I'm looking forward to using this curriculum with her so that she can learn another language! It is so much easier for a young child, rather than a teenager, to learn a second language. Now I have a fun way to teach her! Thanks Flip Flop!

This product is expensive! Is it worth it?

I have been teaching Spanish and French in local nursery schools & daycares in NJ for eight years. It is great to encourage parents to teach their little ones. Some excellent product series have appeared in the last four years: the Ana Lomba books & tapes, the Professor Toto DVD's, the Language Tree French/Spanish for Kids DVD's.

This workbook/CD is inappropriate for ages 3-5, who need gross-motor activity, music, color, big tactile props. You can do far better for same or better price with items mentioned above, or even old tried-and-true song-&-picture series like Barbara MacArthur's (Sing/Dance/Eat Quiche/Tacos) or Judy Mahoney's (Teach Me French/ Spanish).
