4.0 out of 5 stars Flipboard and the Kindle Fire June 24, 2012
Verified Purchase
Fell in love with Flipboard when helping my mother set up her iPad last year. Tried Pulse, Feedly and others and while they are all good it wasn't quite the same (although keep checking them out because they continue to make improvements). I had sideloaded the Flipboard beta for Android and it worked well, but the full Flipboard app is so much better. Google Reader integration worked immediately. This is a major plus since the Kindle Fire does not allow direct connection to Google apps forcing you to go through the Web browser. Hope they change that soon so I can use Google Calendar to sync my work calendar.

Tried to add Twitter and Google+ and had some difficulties at first but it has finally linked to my Flipboard account so all is well. If you have trouble, keep trying. Twitter linked after a couple attempts but it took a couple days before I had success with Google+ and it looks good on the Kindle Fire.

While I am not a frequent Twitter user (maybe once every couple months) that will change with the integration to Flipboard. Why? Because by using Twitter Lists you can create a group of items to view. For example, I have a Twitter list called Authors and can view that list on Flipboard to read posts by some of my favorite authors for book signings, book releases, general commentary, etc.

With Flipboard I will probably revert to my news junkie phase. It is a much easier and cleaner way to obtain national and international news since the TV "news" channels turned me off several years ago.

While the Flipboard app deserves 5 stars I am only giving it 4 stars because of what I believe are some of the Kindle Fire limitations. Updating the feeds can take a while and it does freeze on occasion (but less than the beta version).

2.0 out of 5 stars Very nice, but one fatal problem June 28, 2012
I wish I could read all of my news like this. Easy pleasant interface, text and images formatted to actually read, and of course the fun little flipper mechanism.

Unfortunately, this news reader is too stupid to remember what you are reading. Imagine that you are happily reading some neatly-formatted article, and you get an email. Oh look, my friend sent me a cat video. I think I will stop reading this article containing 12 photography tips and watch the video. OK, that was cute, now I will continue reading... BAM! Flipboard has reset itself to the home page.

Flipboard will remember your location only for as long as it remains actively running. If it has to start up, everything is lost. Unlike Opera Mini (browser) and Pulse (similar to Flipboard), Flipboard does not keep track of your current position to recall it when you open it again. You can bookmark pages, save them, or open them in a real browser, but you would have to manually save or bookmark everything you are reading, and then clean up your bookmarks later so your bookmark list does get cluttered.

That one failure makes Flipboard nothing more than an amusing way to kill leisure time, though it could have been a serious main news reader for people who actually like to read entire articles.

2.0 out of 5 stars what happened? June 21, 2013
Verified Purchase
I was using Flipboard on my Kindle Fire for the past few months and loved it. Worked like a charm. Then on 6/19/13 it wasn't working. It hadn't been updated with new content. The following day it would not open. I rebooted the Kindle. Same behavior. So I deleted it and reinstalled it. The reinstalled version won't let me sign in; it tries to process my sign in and just stays in that neverland, trying to process the request. The Clipboard app on my phone still works. It's disappointing, because using it on the Kindle was a delight - until it stopped working altogether.

This version makes me wish I had not surrendered my IPad to my wife. Crashes and the only fix is to reboot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful. My new favorite app on my Kindle. June 22, 2012
Verified Purchase
Nicely done. It's the first app that integrates all my news and social streams including google+. One improvement I might recommend is having a single login for all Google feeds - Plus, Reader, and You Tube (adding Picasa would be huge btw). Great stuff!

1.0 out of 5 stars Good App Gone Wrong July 7, 2013
Verified Purchase
I have this app on my phone and I love it and use it all the time. However, on my Kindle Fire, it is worthless. I can't even log in to my account. It just keeps "attempting to load". I finally had to remove it from my device.

1.0 out of 5 stars Crashes right after opening now on Kindle Fire December 2, 2012
By John B.
Verified Purchase
I love Flipboard, but now with the last update it crashes within a few seconds of opening. Stopping the app in the app manager doesn't help, clearing the cash doesn't help, shutting down and restarting the Kindle Fire doesn't help. Whatever they did in the last update has essentially bricked the app on the Kindle Fire.

Doesn't work on Fire
I really like Flipboard, read it every day on my Android phone. Wish I could instead use my Kindle, it won't work on my original Kindle Fire. This is not fair, difficult to understand, after all we were the first to buy and fall in love with our Kindles.
