This was a great book about how to save your money, and invest your money. It tells a story of the author, Bernard Kelly, who started his professional life in McDonald's making burgers and fries. This book tells how just few short years later, Kelly's work ethic and dedication have assisted his rise from a kitchen employee to Operations Consultant at McDonald's. McDonald's is actually a good example in this book because it has started from a small business owned by two brothers and grown to a big global chain due to its exemplary fast process and quality management... Just like Kelly has risen from a lower position to a higher position in the firm.

Kelly tells you the the four stages of a successful financial life: What you want "Right Now", "Quality of Life", "Retirement", and "Legacy". This book is not just for one readers, because Kelly also explains how to get back on track in your financial security regardless of your age. This is how he did it. He thinks you can do it, too.

As one who is dedicated to personal and financial development, I often find myself browsing over titles like this. But this one jumped out at me and forced me to take notice. Maybe because it was small, maybe because red and yellow caught my eye, maybe because....whatever. The point is, I read enough of it at my local B&N to know that I wanted to order it from Amazon.

The book excels at quite a few things: it provides "big thinking" in a field dominated by small thinking. In fact, it wastes no time at all and tells you that if you thought beyond your own lifetime and the lifetime of your children and grandchildren, then your name could be tossed around like "Rockefeller" or "JP Morgan". The book asserts that these names became long lasting household names because these men thought about their LEGACY, instead of just their livelihoods. It even provides good on-the-job wisdom such as "learn 1 thing about your industry everyday". It also gives you investment suggestions for where you can place your money to allow it to grow over time. But it is here that the book falters...

The book misses the mark in a few places, such as: it says "invest in a mutual fund", but doesnt go very far to tell you what kind, what level of risk, how to allocate the funds, or even how to evaluate one mutual fund vs another. I realize this book is NOT a how-to book for that, but the author could have at least provided the reader with some suggestions for recommended reading and resources for readers to learn more.

Even with the book's flaws I think it is an excellent addition to my collection. This book, as my review title suggests, is a superb start and should be read by anyone who is ready to take command of their life and legacy.

This is a fabulous read! Anyone interested in understanding the four stages of their financial life should read this book. Most people operate in only one stage - NOW - and that's what destroys their financial life. This book is a must read if you are interested in bettering yourself financially. Sadly, many people today just spend and spend without any understanding of the power of money and time. Just read the first chapter and you will quickly see - this book is a game-changer.

The author's personal story about saving to wealth while working at McDonald's is inspiring. His plan for saving is simple but effective. There's not much "meat" to this book though.
