About the Author

Petr Horácek, a young Czech illustrator and painter, made his publishing debut with the concept books STRAWBERRIES ARE RED and WHAT IS BLACK AND WHITE? and is also the author-illustrator of FLIP'S DAY. Working in a mixture of media, he enjoys exploring a style that is both bold and naïve, and full of brilliant color.

These books by Petr Horacek are wonderfully simple with very bold, almost textural illustrations. They encouraged a lot of imagination and additional storytelling through the pictures between me and my daughter. She was especially impressed by the pull tabs and loved Flip the penguin. I would highly reccomend any book by this author as a first step to reading. The smaller children at my playgroup also love the warm and inviting illustrations that really encourage reading participation.
