5.0 out of 5 stars My top recommendation as a dating & relationship coach, May 3, 1999
This review is from: Flirting for Success: The Art of Building Rapport (Paperback)
Spiegel does the enormous service of taking flirting out of the scary realm of romance and putting it where it belongs: as a communication art. I coach singles on the art of dating and flirting, and this is the book I recommend the most, because of her definition of flirting: "Building your self esteem, and the self-esteem in others, by creating a warm, honest and sincere rapport." Once people begin to understand that you don't have to be witty or clever, you don't have to bat your eyelashes, that flirting is a matter of being sincerely interested in the other person and communicating that interest through honest compliments, the rest is easy.

By A Customer
This review is from: Flirting for Success: The Art of Building Rapport (Paperback)
Of the many books I've read about communications, this one stands out. It describes straightforward, easy to use techniques for reaching more people and reaching people more deeply. The techniques described can be used by anyone and they work. This book is making an impact on my life which is the best testimonial I can give to a self-help book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, April 4, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Flirting for Success: The Art of Building Rapport (Paperback)
Seduced by the hype and Spiegel's gorgeous face adorning the book's cover, I purchased this book. It wasn't worthless, but its substantive content was very disappointing. I kept thinking, "Sans her famous name (remember the Spiegel catalog?) and sans the good looks she was born with, could she still have achieved what she has?" Jill Spiegel is such a dynamo that when I saw a video of her giving a seminar I wondered if she naturally has such a high level of energy or if she achieved it through pharmacologic manipulation. Frankly, most of us aren't so incandescent . . . so, back to my original question. Minus the famous name, minus the natural beauty, and minus the unfathomable energy level, could the rest of us substantially benefit from her techniques as presented in the book? I don't think so.
