4.0 out of 5 stars Soul with inspirational poetry
Natalie "The Floacist" Stewart was one half of UK Neo Soul duo Floetry whose debut CD "Floetic" earned rave reviews and was certified gold. 3.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT POETRY, DECENT MUSIC
VERY WELL WRITTEN WORDS WITH SOLID MUSIC PRODUCTION. SEVERAL STANDOUT JOINTS...A FEW LESS IMPRESSIVE. HOWEVER, SHE SHOWS THAT SHE CAN HOLD HER OWN EVEN WITHOUT THE VOICE OF THE GREAT MARSHA AMBROSIUS. I STILL WISH THEY'D GET BACK TOGETHER. OH WELL, BETTER THIS THAN NOTHING.

4.0 out of 5 stars Soul with inspirational poetry, November 12, 2010

Natalie "The Floacist" Stewart was one half of UK Neo Soul duo Floetry whose debut CD "Floetic" earned rave reviews and was certified gold. They also penned the Michael Jackson hit "Butterflies" as well as songs for Bilal and Jill Scott. Natalie was the spoken word/poetry half of the duo, and she continues that on her debut disc "Floetic Soul". On "Breathe" she encourages one to push out doubt and to "breathe and let it go, so you can grow" against a percolating acoustic backdrop.

The mood is relaxed and free-flowing with Stewart spewing inspiration at the drop of a hat. The most upbeat numbers are the groovy "Keep It Going" featuring Raheem DeVaughn, "Overtime", and the skittery "Go Get It". Other collaborations are the steamy retro "Forever" featuring Musiq Soulchild (and some record scratches), and "the shimmery Come Over" featuring Lalah Hathaway (with lovely horns and guitars). A few other highlights include the horn-peppered "What U Gonna Do?" (with Hip Hop leanings), "Let Me" (with Marvin Gaye-style harmonies), "The Stand", and the Jazzy "Alright Then". Intimate, personal, and melodic!

I am a big fan of floetry. The combination of the voices were so special. Marsha is fabulous! but I always thought that what made the group unique was the poetry. However, I must say that I was a bit hesitant about a CD filled with poetry yet this CD is brilliant. Natalie is extremely talented and the production is top-notch. Her flow is unique on every track and her singing is a nice touch. It's like nothing I have every heard before and I have a vast music collection. I now understand some of why she had to leave floetry...it was just a stepping stone to the next phase of her journey. I started off just digging a few cuts but after repeated plays in the car....it is my go-to vibe-uplifting-groove CD. It is kinda hypnotic. There is a cut for almost every emotion but mostly its about love but not just that "I love you baby typical R & B love" but about loving self, self-affirmation, living your passion which allows you to truly love others. My favorite cuts are: What R u looking 4, Keep it going, Breathe, Alright then, Let me and Need you. This CD is just what I needed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real music from the depths of the soul!, November 28, 2010
This review is from: Floetic Soul (Audio CD)
It's been five years since I ripped the plastic off the last Floetry album. Since then, Marsha was signed to aftermath, the duo disbanned, and Natalie went into seclusion.... or so you think. This album has been in the melting pot since '08, and man did it simmer good. From start to finish, this album is ridiculous!! The embodiment of so much emotionally energy just make this such a powerful LP. "The Floacist" gives us a look into her soul, and it's beautiful. From the highly inspirational Breathe where she lets us know both what she's been through, and how to deal with what you are going through, to the infectious You, a tale of mesmerizing love, this album has all the bases covered. And with appearances by Raheem DeVaughn, Musiq, and Lalah Hathaway, it solidifies her as a still powerful force to be reckoned with when it comes to deep down soul music. This CD is just straight up good music, period! On a sidenote, Marsha, have you heard this? I know the two of you haven't talked since '06, but yo if this happens to get read by somebody near you, or you yourself, give your girl a call. I'm not wishin' for another floetry album, just a conversation. Ya'll been down since ya'll were 11 years old, that's crazy for it to be like this. And same to you Natalie, give your girl a call..... That is all. But Floetic Soul WILL touch your soul. It's a masterpiece of real emotionally charged and personal music. If you ain't got it, GO GET IT, NOW!!

I am not going to lie. I was definitely on the fence about buying this album. However, I am more than happy that I got it... This album is definitely a classic! Smooth, jazzy & sexy! Didn't find 1 song that I didn't like.

I'm definitely adding this album to the mix when I have my lady friends come through to the bachelor-pad!! lol

This is definitely an album for the grown & sexy!!!

Thanks Floacist!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Stweart Steps Into Her Own, November 30, 2010

Floetic Soul allows Natalie Stewart a.k.a. the Floacist to do her thing her own way. Remarkably the results have a twinge of the essence created by her former group Floetry, yet seem fresh and original. Honestly all the songs a worthy of a listen, but stand outs include Breathe, Come Over, You, Need You, Let Me, and Alright Then. I look forward to many great things from Stewart's solo career.
