Well worth checking out especially for Peter Gabriel and King Crimson fans, July 23, 2007
This review is from: Flood (Audio CD)
I bought this album because I came across his version of 'Here Comes The Flood', one of my favourite songs from Peter Gabriel's first album, on iTunes. That track closes the album and is a beautiful haunting rendition. Like the rest of the album it is an instumental.
Jon Durant plays electric, acoustic and 12-string guitars and fretless bass. One of the other two musicians featured on the lbum is Tony Levin on stick. Levin of course, as well as working with Peter Gabriel has been a member of the late incarnations of King Crimson.
Durant's guitar playing is vaguely reminiscent of Robert Fripp's and I think fans of King Crimson and particularly Robert Fripp's solo work would enjoy this album.
I think I read this described as 'New Age' somewhere but I think that gives the wrong impression. Some of tracks are in an 'ambient' vein but there are other rockier tracks that do sound closer to latter day Crimson.
So if you like King Crimson and Robert Fripp or if you want to hear a superb instrumental rendition of 'Here Comes The Flood' check this out. I'd definitely recommend it.
