5.0 out of 5 stars These. Guys. Are. Awesome. !.
I caught these guys at Knuckleheads in KC playing before Mato Nanji/Indigenous. I'm a huge Indigenous fan but... was absolutely rocked by M&A. Well... rocked with a thick, heavy, syrupy blues twist.

They are very, very good. Put up a wall of sound for a small outfit, and it's a very good sound.

And... they are wicked nice guys! Sorry I missed you...

3.0 out of 5 stars Stick to the Rockers and Rollers
It happens all too much. I buy a CD like this because the musicianship seems interesting, and the songs I hear on the radio are loose and fun. Then somewhere around track 3 or 4 the misguided artists think that because they can imitate a traditional delta blues guitar that they should record some solo pastiche with the vocals out front. Guess what? You guys from...

Buy this. Buy them all. If you like The Black Keys, Left Lane Cruiser, Indigenous, Radio Moscow, etc., you will really enjoy M&A.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome! Best album yet!, February 23, 2010
This review is from: Flood (Audio CD)
I have all of Moreland and Arbuckle's albums, and they just keep getting better. This is an excellent album with great songs. I think they have a different "sound" than the Black Keys, but are every bit as good, and in some ways much better. I have met them and they are great guys too. Buy this album and you will not regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sprung Wide Open, January 11, 2011

Moreland and Arbuckle. Remember that name, that odd in a way sounding name for a bluesy-bunch-of-back-woods-front-porch-picking geniuses.

First time I ever laid ears on them, I was sprung wide open to more of their bust down the doors, now get-real and rowdy music.

This is blood boiling music, if you haven't felt your toes in awhile, well- they'll start tapping, your knees'll get in on it too and before long, you'll be jiving; kind of naughty and nice like.

There is nothing like risking life and limb driving the Mass turn pike, but with Moreland and Arbuckle blaring, raw and electrifying- before I know it I am cruising and brother, you better lead, follow or...!

I love them. And with Flood, I love them more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best blues album of the 21st century, March 1, 2010
This review is from: Flood (Audio CD)
There's no review that can do this album justice. It's simply brilliant from start to finish. I also bought it as a gift for my aging father, and I swear, he acts 30 years younger after listening to this CD. Do yourself a favor and get it now! You shant be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars 3 men rocking, November 30, 2010

these 3 guys are the fresh air that the blues has been needing. well thought out lyrics, refreshing energy. the amount of music coming out of only 3 instruments is quite amazing! i had heard them live a week before and was quite impressed that the energy still shone through on a studio album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every song solid, full of energy, November 17, 2010
This review is from: Flood (Audio CD)
Love it!

M&A have created another solid album of well crafted songs with polished lyrics and a driving musical force that propels the listener from one track to the next. That driving force is percussive, as heard in drummer Brad Horner's performance on "Legend of John Henry" and "Bound and Determined." It's melodic, which you can hear in Dustin Arbuckle's vocals especially in "Can't Leave Well Enough Alone" and "18 Counties," and it's the giant wall of sound that this three-piece outfit create with just drums, vocals, a blues harp, and shredding guitar.

Thick, syrupy, delicious blues!

5.0 out of 5 stars Album of the year so far, May 5, 2010

This review is from: Flood (Audio CD)
I saw these guys in concert opening for Budy Guy. While few can match Buddy in concert these guys were excellent. I bought the album and it is by far my favorite release of the year. They play a mix of music from rockin blues to more traditional slower blues to bluegrass etc. My personal favorites are The Legend of John Henry (best song of the year), 18 counties, Bound and Determined and Hate to See you Go. This album is exceptional and Arbuckle's whaling harmonica and the guitar playing of Moreland will definitely get your head bobbin. Buy this album!!

Guess what? You guys from Kansas can't sing like a 1920's sharecropper, so stick to the juke joint songs because those slow laments are d u l l and they don't sound right. I'd so much rather have a short CD with 8 tracks that cook than 13 that carry some dead weight...something I can play straight through at a party. That said, there are some songs here that definitely cook, and for that -- 2.5 stars, rounded up.
