From School Library Journal
Gr 4-7-Some of North America's worst catastrophes are chronicled in these titles. Each volume covers the causes of a specific type of disaster, its effects on people and animals, its cost in terms of loss of life, and its long-term economic impact. Information on predicting and preparing for such occurrences and how people can protect themselves is provided. The format is inviting; material is organized into four chapters, with headings and subheadings in bold type. Labeled diagrams clarify and extend the texts. The captioned full-color photographs dramatically portray the devastation brought on by the disasters. There are many other books available on these subjects, but the extensive use of firsthand accounts by survivors makes these treatments interesting and appealing.-Carolyn Angus, The Claremont Graduate School, CA
