Another "must have" for the well traveled wargamer,
By
This review is from: Floor Games (Paperback)
I must admit I had not heard of "Floor Wars" prior to reading "Little Wars". The book predates "Little Wars" but is often considered a companion to the other book. It focuses more on the collecting and building of settings than actual wargaming. The books compliment each other well. "Floor Wars" sparked my imagination even more...taking me back to the little countries and armies that I used to think up in my youth. It was amusing listening to Wells go on about how good figures for certain periods and ranges were not available. I guess nothing really changes after all!

Great piece of gaming history,
By Mac (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Floor Games (Paperback)
I was very happy to receive my copy of FloorGames. HG Well's Little Wars is a treasure and I have been looking forward to the Skirmisher reprint of Little Wars. The book is a delight and it's a major work in the history of wargaming and the evolution to role-play gaming. The two-book set would be a fantastic gift opportunity for any wargame fan and I look forward to sending out several sets this next holiday season to friends.

a perfect reproduction!,
This review is from: Floor Games (Paperback)
I had heard about Floor Games around the time I got Little Wars, but this was the first time I had actually seen it or read it. This is a slightly larger format than their edition of Little Wars and it is very nice looking. The information Well's offers on creating scenery for your war games was particularly interesting to me.

Fun for Playing With Kids,
By Game Cougar (Austin, Minnesota) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Floor Games (Paperback)
This book isn't really a set of rules, but has lots of fun tips for playing all sorts of neat an imaginative games with children. It is also a great way to expose young people to the works of H.G. Wells! This book is actually a very fun read and will be the first book by this great author that I read to my grandson.

Fun & Floors,

This is a really cool and fun book for all ages. It reminds me a lot of the game I used to love, Crossbows and Catapults, but with a more defined and easy to use rule system. Most of the book is full of stories and anecdotes by H.G.Wells and is a fun read in itself. My favorite part is the perfect reproduction of the original photos, very cool pictures of history!

Where Civ came from,
This review is from: Floor Games (Paperback)
Maybe it's not the first of the civ building type games, but it's the first rule set for those games. Played between H.G. Wells' kids, with him as moderator, this nation versus nation in combat and comerce game is still fun to play. It's very family oriented and a good way to bond with parents and kids. Since everything is physical there is no ambiguous rules to be misinterpreted, this helps belay blow ups between siblings. A fun fun game for all!

Fun read,

This little reprint by Skirmisher Publishing brings back a rare classic for the modern reader. H.G. Wells' wry, humorous narrative on wargames and roleplaying games invented by him and his sons makes this book a "must have" for Wells fans, and gamers may find Wells' many tips on modelling and set-making (with a lot of making do in the absence of materials) of great interest.

A gaming classic from a literary master,
By Chris (Rochester, New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Floor Games (Paperback)
If you haven't read H. G. Wells's "Floor Games" (and the later but better known "Little Wars") you owe it to yourself to check them out. They're funny, creative, insightful, and elegantly written--a century-old testament to Wells's genius. Kudos to Varhola and Skirmisher Publishing for rescuing these classics from obscurity.

The Skirmisher Publishing volume of Floor Games is a sharp little reprint. All the drawings and photographs from the original seem to be present. The figures, pictures, and text are all clear and sharp; excellent production values.
