5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous lamp; fabulous value
This is an absolutely fabulous lamp for the price! It has a heavy base so it is very stable. Both the torchiere lamp and reading lamp are on swivels so they adjust through a wide range of angles. Thus, this lamp provides both general lighting and task lighting. The frosted glass shades are good quality and diffuse the light beautifully. The assembled lamp looks like...

2.0 out of 5 stars Pretty lamp, but cheap, irreplaceable shades make it a lemon
I really loved the way this lamp looked and the light it gave off. The switch on the torchiere lamp is VERY stiff and tough to turn at times, but I could have lived with that. What I (and the lamp) could not live with was the thin, cheap glass from which the torchiere shade is constructed. My lamp is on carpet, and sits about 6" from the wall. Within a couple of...

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous lamp; fabulous value, July 16, 2003
This review is from: Floor Lamp with Reading Light and Glass/Steel Shades
This is an absolutely fabulous lamp for the price! It has a heavy base so it is very stable. Both the torchiere lamp and reading lamp are on swivels so they adjust through a wide range of angles. Thus, this lamp provides both general lighting and task lighting. The frosted glass shades are good quality and diffuse the light beautifully. The assembled lamp looks like a much more expensive one.

The lamp was very simple to assemble. All that is involved is screwing pieces of the stem together and attaching the shades. (And inserting the light bulbs, which are not included, of course.) I was amused to notice, however, that the very obvious screwing together of the stem pieces was fully covered in the included instruction sheet, but the less obvious mechanism to attach the shades was completely missing from the instructions. Basically, I was momentarily confused because I thought the pieces that hold the shades on were missing, but I eventually discovered that they had been screwed onto the lamp bases for shipping. One little note in the instructions that gave a hint to look there instead of somewhere within the plastic and Styrofoam packaging would have saved me about 10 minutes of looking.

With that one (very) small complaint, I can say that I liked this lamp in my home office so much, I am planning to buy another one for my living room.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pretty lamp, but cheap, irreplaceable shades make it a lemon, August 14, 2005
This review is from: Floor Lamp with Reading Light and Glass/Steel Shades
I really loved the way this lamp looked and the light it gave off. The switch on the torchiere lamp is VERY stiff and tough to turn at times, but I could have lived with that. What I (and the lamp) could not live with was the thin, cheap glass from which the torchiere shade is constructed. My lamp is on carpet, and sits about 6" from the wall. Within a couple of months of having it, the shade sustained two huge cracks when it was bumped lightly against the wall. Since that time the shade bumped the wall lightly again, and the entire shade shattered. Not at all safe. I know the cost for this lamp isn't high, but I do wish the glass in the shade was just a bit thicker to prevent such an occurrence. I have another torchiere on the other side of the sofa that paid 2.5 times as much for, and that's served me well with no problems or breakage for 6 years & through one cross-country move. Perhaps in this case you really do get what you pay for. If anyone knows where I could get replacement shades that would FIT this lamp, please let me know. I looked, but it seems this shade is an odd size. :(

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly designed, March 1, 2004
This review is from: Floor Lamp with Reading Light and Glass/Steel Shades
I bought this lamp from amazon.com and I'm really disappointed in it. My problems with it:

a. Lacking any kind of dimmer, it's reading lamp (the side one) is much too bright for it's intended purpose.

b. The swivel on the side lamp is useless - because of the lack of tension on the screw holding it in, it simply flops around. It looks useful and isn't - this is my biggest problem with this lamp.

This was my first purcahse of a lamp or furniture of any kind via Amazon, so perhaps I was just naive in believing some of the reviews.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Lamp, January 26, 2005
This review is from: Floor Lamp with Reading Light and Glass/Steel Shades
I bought this lamp on sale to match the brushed nickel hardware on a new bedroom set. It was extremely easy to assemble and it has a very sturdy base. I love that I can just use the reading lamp without having the other light on. It is very stylish and provides ample lighting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Modern & stylish lamp with amazing finish!, January 15, 2008
This review is from: Floor Lamp with Reading Light and Glass/Steel Shades
I don't know, what other reviewers were doing with this lamp that it caught fire. For a price of just under $40 this is very reasonable (The same style and design of lamp at JCP is for $70 in sale and $49 in other store). Believe me, this is a very modern looking & stylish lamp for people who like modern contemporary stuff in their homes as compared to traditional. The stainless steel finish is very smooth. You can use up to 60watts bulb (soft light) or energy saver in its reading light and 150watts (reg or energy sav) on top. Its very easy to assemble and not too much heavy. Anyone can easily shift it from one place to another. I am very happy with this purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great ambiance, good quality for the money, June 24, 2004

I bought two of these from the store for our office. One was missing a piece so I had to take it back, but all in all they assemble rather easily, the fact that they have a three-way switch/lighting option is great and you can adjust both shades to light your area the way you'd like. I have my lower light aimed at my desk top and the upper straight up. It really adds nice ambiance and lighting and we've gotten many compliments.

1.0 out of 5 stars Fire Hazard, June 25, 2008

This review is from: Floor Lamp with Reading Light and Glass/Steel Shades
I bought 2 of these lamps in 2006 and last month it started on fire shortly after turning it on. I have 2 small children and my husband had to take the lamp outside to get the fire out. Do NOT buy this lamp or a similar style by the same company! I also cannot find any recalls on it. Will Amazon/Target refund my $? Doubt it. The flames began to shoot out of the top of the lamp, by the bulb. It seems to be an electrical problem as the light socket is fully burndt. Weird how it would work for almost 2 years and then cause a problem. I still have another one, and will not be using it. Does anyone know where I can get a refund for this defective item? I still have the burnt lamp I can send for proof! It seems to me by other replies, that there have been other fire problems with the same style lamp! Yes, it looks nice and it worked fine since 2006, but I would rather have a house to live in than a "nice" looking lamp . . . Watch out.

3.0 out of 5 stars Torchiere lamp, September 12, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Floor Lamp with Reading Light and Glass/Steel Shades
The lamp is pretty cool looks wise. It has both a reading lamp and a full sized lamp which is always nice. For the price I think that it was pretty reasonable. I would suggest this lamp to anyone who is looking for something cheap, yet attractive in style and design.

Mine died in a spectacular blaze of fire, nearly setting my curtains ablaze. So, that pretty much leaves out recommending it to anyone. Additionally, before the flaming incident that precipitated its demise, the top part flopped around because the screws wouldn't stay tight for long. On the plus side (lol) it was cheap.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fine Looking Lamp, October 9, 2003

I purchased this for our office conference area/table. The lighting in our office isn't that great (which is pretty lame for an architectural office). The glass shades spread the light well, and the finish is very nice, clean looking. It's very classy looking -- it doesn't look cheap like a lot of lamps I see -- and the price is extremely reasonable. Also, the weighted stand seems very sturdy. We only just got it, and so I haven't discovered any negative things about it -- perhaps there aren't any! My boss likes it so much, he wants to put one in each workstation!
