2.0 out of 5 stars Really having fun?
Now, understand me here. From Maybe He'll Know on Blue Angel to Can't Breathe on Bring Ya To The Brink, I've got 'em all. All versions. Every 7", every cassingle. When I get a new text message, my phone says "Yeah, turn that bass up." I'm a fan.

But this album is dire! If you're not a completist, keep away. The versions of the new singles are good, but they're mostly previously available, and the die-hards would have them all already. Time after Time and True Colors are appalling; they sound like a 14-year-old has sat down with a Yamaha keyboard from 1994 and played along with 12 Deadly Cyns. Stick with the 2005 Josh Harris versions of Time after Time, and just admit True Colors can't be remixed! And, please, we don't need another bloody version of Girls! Let it go!

Bring Ya to The Brink was her finest album for two decades, and one of the best generally for some years. And new Cyndi music is what we want! Not sad versions of 80's songs that frankly can't be bettered. If the record company won't fork out for her to continue to create new music, I wish she'd change record companies.

The second star is for the new High & Mighty. It's okay.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's Well Done, But An Opportunity Missed, March 24, 2009
This review is from: Floor Remixes (Incl. Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
Combining old hits with new material is a questionable strategy, as the artist risks burying the new songs among old classics that fans want to hear and are still played on the radio. Cyndi Lauper is heard in clubs, on the radio, and in commercials and videos all over the world, which is why I am puzzled about why a few things did not occur here.

1) Being a huge fan of "Bring Ya To The Brink," I wish that the album's two bonus tracks "Got Candy" and "Breathe" would have been made available here in remixed versions. Many of the songs that are mixed on here were already huge hits in their own right and simply cannot be improved upon, no matter who is remixing them.
2) There were other Lauper songs from past albums which were excellent but nobody heard (like "Higher Place" from the Shine album for example), and those could have been remixed into club hits as opposed to remixing several of her 80's classics. Diehards will have those songs and remixes of them already, and newer fans will want newer music. So I question the strategy here.

Bottom line, some of these tracks are great (the "Echo" remix and the "High and Mighty" remix), but this is an example of a groundbreaking artist breaking no new ground. And that is an opportunity lost in my humble opinion - Cyndi has not recorded an abundance of music during her career, but she has enough great dance tracks to her name to have made this a devastatingly good set of mixes. This is more like a long, extended maxi-single, which is a shame.

I am a hardcore Cyndi Lauper fan. I have every version of every song she's created, and this is truly awful. It sounds like a teenage DJ made this in their garage. I'm perplexed as to why Cyndi authorized this release. The one redeeming quality is the bonus video footage.

The mixes are awesome - they're not too off the mark, and really hold onto the style of the song - but still innovative. Love it.
