Although shoddy in some respects, I generally enjoyed Cyndi Lauper's Floor Remixes album. I think it serves as a great companion piece to the Bring Ya to the Brink CD, her best in years, especially since there were no actual, physical singles released from the album to indulge the hardcore fans and collectors.

I will warn you that a good half of the album is very "experimental" and at times amateurish, such as the completely instrumental True Colors remix that seems to have been created entirely on a cheap keyboard, and the Pinkfinger vs Mihell mix of Into the Nightlife with sparse dub-style vocals over Arabian beats (which I actually do really like, though others may struggle through it). Time After Time makes for a fairly decent dance mix, but the vocals are quiet and washed out by the heavy beats, like a true acapella wasn't available to work with thus giving the impression of a bootleg mix. The Girls Just Wanna Have Fun/Set Your Heart Mashups are fun and in both cases don't stray too far from the originals. I'm kind of impartial to High & Mighty, but totally dig both remixes of Same Ol' Story. However, my disc does not include any version of Echo, and I'm not sure if it's a typo on Amazon's part or if there are multiple versions of this CD available, or if it even exists at all. (Thoughts?) Collectively the album has an underground, garage type feel to it, but still club appropriate.

So while I felt like I had to defend Floor Remixes against the super-negative reviews I've read, I do have to admit it's not for everyone. Casual fans will probably be inclined to pass altogether because Cyndi's wonderful and powerful voice is not so prominent on several tracks, and because the price is so high for a Japanese import which is unfortunate. Plus it's mostly inspired by her last studio album and not really a "hits compilation." But, if you love Cyndi like I do, and find remixes interesting in general, you may appreciate the quirkiness of this CD and have some fun with it. One man's trash is another man's treasure, and in this case you get a little bit of both.
