A must have no doubt. If you are in need of seedling starting plugs or cloning plugs these are for you. We've used them in soil, hydroponic and aeroponic systems and they work very well. Note for all systems if you put these in the ground BEFORE the roots are say 1-3" long your plant will lock up and go into an "overwatered" state because they cannot breath. For seeds, soak the seed in a paper towel like you did in grade school. When they crack put the tap root side DOWN (MAKE SURE) and push the seed down to the proper depth for that seedling type. We spray them with a water bottle of regular tap water. For clones, punch a whole through the center of the plug where the stem will go, cut the clones, dip them in rooting hormone and put the clone into a already wet plug. For both, when you have a good root base you can plant them in whatever system you have. They do hold water but expel water well so they have a good water to air ratio. Having external roots with these is a must, I can't stress that enough. Get a huge bag like this 100 pack and you will not be sorry. Store them in a cool and dry place. Do not put them in your garage to sit or let them dry out from heat or evaporation or they will become useless. One very important thing to mention about these is they are harbors for beneficial bacteria and breed them very well. You can use beneficial bacteria on these plugs before putting in your clones by putting in a small amount into the hole. Exceptional product!

PS - For aeroponic guys, don't use any plugs at all when cloning. Dip your clones in the rooting hormone and let them sit for a minute in the hormone. Then place them in a 3" net cup with a 3" foam insert. The rooting area will be exposed to the solution being sprayed. Make sure you spray the clones with fresh water until they perk back up some and then let them ride on their own. In 3 days you'll have transplantable clones.

I must say, I get much better results for germinating seeds with these plugs compared to rock wool. Will work for virtually all seeds, other than the ones that require direct light to germinate, such as African Violet and mint seeds. Otherwise, these work fantastic and are porous enough to let roots grow through them freely so they can be transfered to your pot without trying to cut them out of the plugs. They retain moisture very well, which is a good thing, but can make your seedling more prone to fungal attacks if you keep them in a humid environment. I had this problem at first but any commerical garden fungal spray will take care of the problem. A must have for avid or people knew to growing plants from seeds.

This product is the best. I used the plugs in the hydrofarm Humidity tent whith the Hydrofarm Heat mat temp. controler. I germed 2 seeds and the popped up in 4 days and I also used Clonex with some clones and with the plugs I got 100% results in less then a week. Either everything I used was a perfect combination or these plugs are perfect. I hope this review helps you out.....

This will be my second year using these plugs with !00% germination both times. I have used these for tomatoes, peppers, basil and cuccumbers with 100% success. I start by putting these in the 10x20 trays that hold 72 plugs then I will fill the tray half full of clean tap water and let sit for 30 minutes. They I will remove the plug tray from the base tray and dump out all the water that wasn't absorbed by the plugs and replace the plug tray in the base tray. Then I place two seeds per plug about 1/4 inch into the pre-existing hole in the top. Next I cover the tray with a clear plastic dome and place them on a heating mat. The importance of this can not be over stated. Per gardening expert after expert it is crutial that your seeds be between 80-85 degress to germinate. Then finally I place a single T5 flurescent light fixture about 12 inches over the tray on a 16h on/ 8h off schedule. Every couple of day when the plugs start to lighten in color (dark brown when wet, light brown when dry) I will repeat the watering process as above. After the sprouts are about 1 1/2 - 2 inches tall I will remove the cover and heating mat and lower the light to 1/2 inch about the tallest sprout. One other thing I want to mention is that do to the fact that I have 100% germination I have to remove one of the sprouts which I do when they are 2 inches tall. I will definitly use these again in the future. Hope my review helped.

I've used both these types of plugs and Rockwool to make clones and these seem to work better than Rockwool. Feel like the directions for using Rockwool makes them too wet so cuttings don't want to grow roots looking for water they just soak up water through their cut stems. These types of plugs come already damp and ready to use for the most part. The rapid rooter brand ones come a little damper and thus are ready to go out of the package. I just put my cuttings into them with rooting gel and spray them with PHed water. I will water the actual plugs after about 2 days.

With these Flora root plugs. I put about a cup of water into the bag and leave it closed out in the sun for the day. This will evaporate the water and even it out between all the plugs. Then I plant them as a normally would with the rapid rooters. These are a lot better deal and I'll most likely continue getting these because they're basically exactly the same for a better price.
