5.0 out of 5 stars Another Little Gem from Judith Montano, January 10, 2001
By
This review is from: Floral Stitches: An Illustrated Guide (Spiral-bound)
If you have come to expect the best from Judith Montano's books, you will not be disappointed by her latest offering. It is full of ideas for floral stitchery.

There are plenty of new designs in this book. If you already own several of Judith's books you will not see a lot of repitition of previously published designs. New stitches and new combinations of old favorites are plentiful.

My favorite sections are the Free Form Embroidery samples and the Crazy Quilt Combinations. Every crazy quilter is on the lookout for new ideas for seam decorations and the outline drawings are very simple to follow.

Floral alphabets, painted backgrounds and ribbon embroidery stitches are also covered in their own sections.

Try this book--you will not be disappointed!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not for the beginner, February 16, 2001
By
This review is from: Floral Stitches: An Illustrated Guide (Spiral-bound)
This is a good book for creative inspiration, but beginners should be aware that it is not intended for floss embroiderers with no ribbon embroidery experience.

Some of the directions assume knowledge of basic stitches, and often the directions do not explain how to 'end' a stitch or series of stitches.

Do buy this book if you would like to be inspired to begin ribbon embroidery or if have experience and you need new ideas: the pictures are wonderful! And if you already have some knowledge of basic ribbon stitches, you'll be well on your way to new ideas and projects.

5.0 out of 5 stars Floral Stitching explored, July 25, 2002
This review is from: Floral Stitches: An Illustrated Guide (Spiral-bound)
This is an excellent book. It provides you with many choices of stitched flowers both in silk ribbon and threads and yarns. FOr those who admire the intricate stitching and motifs that are original to crazy quilting this book will set you well on your way to adding many of interesting stitched florals to your blocks. It is a well done book, very good instructions , easy to understand and truly inspirational. I have read many cq books and find this the best one.
Not only does it give you the basics you need to get started adding wonderful embroidery to your quilting but it inspires you to adventure out and try your own designs.
This book is well suited to the beginner and the experienced stitcher who wants to add new techniques and ideas to your quilted pieces.

4.0 out of 5 stars For the experienced embroiderer, November 13, 2002
This review is from: Floral Stitches: An Illustrated Guide (Spiral-bound)
This book is beautiful to thumb through. It makes you long for a gentler time when people made more effort to embellish their things. There are some wonderful ideas with good illustrations and diagrams. This is not a good book if you are just starting to explore the world of embroidery but if you are a seasoned embroiderer, this is a lovely treasure to add to you library.

"Floral Stitches" is one of the most lovely books I own. It is actually a work of art, containing soothing, pleasing, delightful, and concise, informative, and inspirational content. The stitches are well- illustrated, and useful, and Montano provides exact information from an artist's eye on how to create work with depth. You will be delighted with it! Its small enough to go into my stitching tote, and I carry it everywhere I stitch. Eye-appealing! YOu can't go wrong!

5.0 out of 5 stars Floral Stitches, October 2, 2007

This review is from: Floral Stitches: An Illustrated Guide (Spiral-bound)
I have many embroidery books and this is the best so far.

It is the most detailed I have seen and it includes not only great
visual step by step illustrations but information on how to design
stitch layouts for a flower you may have in your own garden.

Examples of both thread and ribbon uses are shown as well as
information on fabric and color choices (color wheel included).
It's a great book for those who have some experience in basic embroidery.
