If you don't (at the very least) start tapping your foot when this CD is on then there is no hope for you!! Floraline is a strange combination of Blondie, Steely Dan and Stereolab in my opinion - not sure why, but it works! I feel very hip and chic when I play Floraline. 3.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant and soothing
Floraline makes exactly the music you want airline-hostess pop to sound like: a light, disco sound. The lead singer affects a cute Eurotrash accent and sings with uniform enthusiasm. It's a great anaesthetic for, say, the impersonal drudgery of the work day. "But where's the soul?" you might ask. Eh, who wanted soul anyway?

Get it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Delight, July 12, 1999
This review is from: Floraline (Audio CD)
I had high expectations of this CD because my previous experiences with minty fresh had been so good (Aluminum group, Cardigans etc.). I have to say that this cd is fantastic!! All 10 songs are flawless, with "Eighty-One" being the best. They seem to have older influences such as the cocteau twins, sundays and sound as good as their peers: stereolab, ivy and Club 8. A definite pick-up for those who prefer very lush vocals and airy guitars.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for any music fan, June 14, 2007
This review is from: Floraline (Audio CD)
I was extremely disappointed that there was never a follow-up to this incredible eponymous debut. This is such a great album that it made it into my "Desert Island Five" along with "KISS Alive II", Kate Bush's "Kick Inside", Blue Oyster Cult's "Secret Treaties" and Lush's "Gala". I agree with most of the other reviewers, though I can't believe that so many of them are so surprised that Floraline came from Hotlanta. Atlanta has always had a vibrant music scene, so it should not come as a surprise that they hail from there. While I can certainly see the comparisons to Stereolab (though less noisy), Komeda (less eclectic) and even Steely Dan (less jazzy), I find that some of the newer, as I consider them, "electrolounge" bands such as Persephone's Bees and the Bird and the Bee are better comparisons. Perhaps Floraline should have called themselves the Flora Bees...

5.0 out of 5 stars Where are they NOW??!!!, February 25, 2005

Oh my goodness... these people are genius! From the wonderful, subtle music to the lilting verses by Linda. I've heard they have a new singer since then, but haven't found or listened to it. My hometown of Atlanta, GA is very well-known for many different variants of music (i.e. hip-hop, r&b, alternative & rock) yet it's so nice to hear some unexpected chill & poppy music coming from there. Also, I'm proud to see the walkway from Peachtree Center Ave towers on the cover! Represent ATL!

i liked the preview tracks i heard on amazon.com, then bought the album cause it just seemed like there weren't going to be too many copies of it out there, so if you like what you hear on the preview tracks, then do yourself a favor and buy the album.

This album is great. These guys know what pop is and it shows in every song. I'm not in to writing long reviews but bands like this just deserve some attention for their efforts. Its nice to know that there are still some bands out there writing catchy well crafted pop songs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Non-cliched New Wave, February 27, 2002
This review is from: Floraline (Audio CD)
Floraline manages to grab the best bits of 80s New Wave and mix it with futuristic 90s pop to craft their self-titled debut. It's stunning, especially considering that they come from Atlanta, Georgia. Nobody would expect a band with this kind of futuristic sound coming from the heart of the deep south, but this band is full of surprises. Blending catchy guitar riffs with unintrusive synths and hi-hats, the vocals seem to float a few feet above the music...complex, yet a perfect complement.

5.0 out of 5 stars velvety goodness, April 12, 2001

Almost a guilty pleasure for me, since I'm not terribly fond of the whole 80's-flavored synth-pop genre. But that's the problem with genres sometimes, they too easily overshadow an artist and often create divisions where none are needed.

Linda Sharp's gorgeous voice melts the walls of classification and category. It's just beautiful music, period. Cosmopolitan daydreams that range from heartbreak to giddy reverie. Never too precious--never too dour. Crystal melodies tower over glittery synth landscapes. Cool nights...wistful sighs. Floraline make it all sound so effortless. A great debut, and I can't wait to hear more.

Minty Fresh label has become one of my favs. They are pretty much a hit or miss though. When they hit, they hit hard. Floraline is just that, hard hitting in the lounge/synthy-moog field. A must for any fan of electronic pop circa 1979-1980. I hope they have a follow-up! Highly recommended for any synth-pop fan. Full of catchy hooks and grooves!!
