Absolutely wonderful Rock en Español!,
By Ricardo Carreon Quinones "http://ricardosblog... (Sao Paulo, Brazil) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Flores De Alquiler (Audio CD)
There is an interesting story behind Flores de Alquiler. This is the second album by the Spanish group La 5a Estacion. The first one was produced in Madrid and this one was produced in Mexico City. And you can really tell, the Mexico hit "El Sol no Regresa" mixes solid Rock en Español with Mariachi Music and the result is awesome without being corny at all.La 5a Estación actually is enjoying a much stronger success in Mexico that its early sucess in Spain (it's currently Top 5 in Mexico's Mix Up). And now the process is working upside down: they are now making an entrance into Spain helped by its Mexico success -- sort of upside down to the many spanish groups that come to Mexico after a sucessful career in Spain. The band sounds a lot like the 80s-90s sound of the great Rock en Español bands with a solid rock and roll attitude to it. The CD includes both solid rock tunes as well as very decent power ballands, all of them supported by strong vocals. The lyrics are very strong too and add to the overall robustness of the band. The whole CD is very enjoyable. Songs to hear: "El Sol no Regresa" (the mariachi music is nicely mixed with the rock tune creating a sort of a Mexican party-over-tequila environment on a lost love story), "Daría" (strong rock pop tune, also talks about lost love), "Mi Ciudad" ( a nice homage to Mexico City --"Esta es mi ciudad, Madrid ya se quedo atrás", "Distrito de mi Soledad") and of course "Flores de Alquiler" (a nice piano + Guitar intro for a Power Ballad Mellodic feel). The album also includes a couple of covers of "Si yo fuera Mujer" and "Voy a pasarmelo bien". If you like Rock en Español this is an album you shouldn't miss.

This spanish group has found success all over Latin America and the U.S. Actually in the U.S the hits started to flow one year after this album's release. The first single "EL SOL NO REGRESA" climbed the Hot Latin Tracks until it peaked at #37 (very modest hit in the U.S but very big in countries such as Peru, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, etc). The big smash in the U.S was with "ALGO MAS" which went all the way up to #3, giving the album Gold certification and making it peak at #7 on Billboard's Top Latin Albums. What a great ballad that song is. The third single "DARIA" it's making its own success on the charts and radios as well. This is just commercial comment and info from this album but beyond the success, this is an album mix with sytles where pop is the main root. The only singer of the three members of this group is the girl (something like Mecano bgut the style is not the same. Personally I like more this group). Give a shot to this album is very good, specially check the tracks "EL SOL NO REGRESA", "ESPERARE DESPIERTA", "DARIA", "FLORES DE ALQUILER" and the two bonus tracks, specially "SI YO FUERA MUJER".

Authentic "Rock en Español",
By
This review is from: Flores De Alquiler (Audio CD)
There was a "Rock en Español" boom in Latin America in the late 80's and early 90's but then the latino bands started to switch over to Hip Hop and rap and abandoned the Pop-Rock genre. La 5a Estacion picks up where pop rock was left off some 15 years ago.The trio's singers' voice is awesome and gives their songs the punch they need. Song standouts include: "El sol no regresa", "Algo mas" (their first two singles in Mexico), "Daría" and "Mi ciudad". The last two tracks on this CD are remakes of two famous "Rock en tu idioma" songs from the "Rock en Español" era mentioned above and where they have done an excellent job on "Voy a pasármelo bien" (originally recorded by Hombres G.). If you're looking to see what is going on in the Pop-Rock en Español world today; this is a great example and a must have on any Pop Rock en Español fans' CD rack.

I bought this CD without ever hearing this band before. It was recommended by Amazon and I just love all of the songs, the lyrics and the beat are a great mixture of rock and latin fusion. Natalia's voice is beautiful and each song has a great meaning. This CD Rocks!
