Product Description

The RP-701 Hand Pruner makes it easier to attend to all your pruning chores. "The Original Ratchet-Cut" Hand Pruner often imitated but never duplicated!! Counterfeit hand pruners do not have the quality nor the guarantee of our patented original pruner. A lightweight yet durable hand pruner, the RP-701 hand pruner easily prunes branches up to 3/4" in diameter. This hand pruner is ideal for the precision pruning of flowers including roses. All gardeners, from novice to professional, benefit greatly with this powerful hand pruner. Features of this unique hand pruner include a high carbon spring steel pruning blade. The pruning blade on this hand pruner is Teflon coated to resist pruning residue buildup. The handles of this hand pruner are fiberglass-reinforced nylon. The Cordura Nylon Holster for this hand pruner is sold separately. It easily attaches to your belt to keep your Florian Ratchet-Cut Pruner close to you at all times. The item code for the holster is NP701. Our patented Ratchet-Cut mechanism works like the jack on your car. This mechanism multiplies your strength up to 700% when pruning with this hand pruner. This hand pruner will allow people with arthritis, carpal tunnel or diminished hand strength to once again enjoy the pleasures of gardening.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pruner OK, shipping charges outrageous, November 20, 2009
By
This review is from: Florian 701 Pruner without holster
I bought this tool, which is shipped directly from the manufacturer. It's a nice enough tool, although I do wonder how long the nylon construction will last. I did not get any sort of guarantee with the tool, although the product info in the Amazon.com listing suggests that there is some sort of guarantee (it says "Counterfeit hand pruners do not have the quality nor the guarantee of our patented original pruner"). The tool is expensive enough to start, but the shipping cost of $9.25 is outrageous. The pruner came to me in a small bubble wrap envelope--the kind you can get for 50 cents if you buy a pack of them. The actual postage for first-class shipping from Florian (in Connecticut) to me in Minnesota was $1.90. There was no box or any sort of packaging for the tool; it was just in the bubble bag. I don't care about that, although an insert with some sort of guarantee would have been nice. But to jack up the shipping that much is ridiculous, especially since the tool was shipped directly from the manufacturer (which means they aren't losing 50% of the sale price to a re-seller).

The bottom line is, when I buy a something directly from the manufacturer, I know that they are making twice as much as if I'd bought it from a re-seller; and to have them also charge extremely high shipping makes me mad. I wish I had thought this through when I saw what the shipping charge would be at the time I ordered... the total was a bit over $40. That is one expensive tool. By the way, I did e-mail the manufacturer directly through their website to register my dissatisfaction with the shipping cost; as of this writing (about 2 weeks later), they have not bothered to respond.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best hand pruner ever!!, July 27, 2010
This review is from: Florian 701 Pruner without holster
After 25 years, I finally had to replace my Florian hand pruner. I vaguely remembered that it came with some kind of replacement guarantee but figured it would not apply in this case. But I checked it out on the web and sent it in anyway.

It has held up well. Beyond well, in fact. Miraculously well. But 25 years of use is hard on anything. Even though I never used it improperly (cutting wires and the like) I did not expect Florian to make good on the warranty in my case. But they did -- $12 for replacement for ANY reason.

With my arthritis, it's the only reason I've been able to continue pruning the roses, the apple tree, and everything else.

The larger limbs, I have the Florian lopers.

Can't imagine gardening without them.

Thank you, Florian, for an excellent product and warranty.

5.0 out of 5 stars pruning shears with a punch, February 5, 2009
It is amazing what this average looking pruning shear can do. It will cut through branches bigger than your thumb. They are small, handy and easy to use. Saves you from having to have a pair of lopers with you while you are doing simple pruning
