Editorial Reviews

Review

"(T)his book is definitely a must read for not only the diehard craft beer aficionado but also the casual beer drinker who likes to know a little about that they're drinking." - (Floribrew, April 17, 2014)

"If you're planning a drinking tour of Florida anytime soon, I have your guidebook sitting on my desk. 'Florida Breweries' offers a current and wide-ranging look at the Sunshine State brewing scene." (Todd Caviness, Orlando Sentinel, April 10, 2014)

"I enjoyed everything about Florida Breweries. It would make a great addition to any beer enthusiast's coffee table." (Orlando Beer Guide 2014-04-07)

From the Author

From the Introduction
"Over the course of about a year, I traveled to all of the state's breweries to speak with a brewer, owner, or manager and sample the beer. Each brewery has a chapter in which I tried to tell the most compelling story I found. Sometimes the story is about the beer; sometimes it's about the brewer; sometimes it's about the brewer; and sometimes it's about how perseverance, mixed with a bit of good luck, resulted in success."

More About the Author

Gerard Walen is the author of "Florida Breweries," a former editor and writer for the New York Times Regional Media Group, and a contributing writer for Beer Advocate, All About Beer, and Paste Magazine. Born in Tampa, he lives in a little house in Crystal River, Florida, a stone's throw from the Withalacoochee River, where he can often be found on his deck enjoying a locally crafted beer.

Nice book. This covers a lot of breweries in Florida, and at the rate the new ones are opening up, it needs to be updated every six months. Biscayne Bay Brewery, in Doral, just opened a few months ago, and they have a great Master Brewer, Aaron, and my son, Andrew, is the Assistant Brewer. Their beer is in many of the bars and restaurants already, and they are doing a booming business. Thanks for taking the time to put this book together.

If you live or are visiting Florida and are a fan of craft beers you NEED to get this book. It lists all the breweries in the sunshine state. Gives a little history of each brewery and even lists the beers they had on tap when the author visited plus his favorite beers at each location. The book is divided into geographic regions so it is easy to search for a particular region. This book was SO worth it to purchase. Cheers!

Former newspaper reporter Gerard Walen has written a concise and entertaining guild to Craft Breweries in the Sunshine State. Florida may not be known as a great beer state, but after one read of Mr Walen's guide, many a beer geek will be packing their bags for a trip south. Mr Walen's background as a journalist shines through, making this a easy read that's hard to put down.
