About the Author

Douglas Waitley is the author of nineteen books on Americana, ranging in subject matter from regional histories to accounts of the era of steam locomotives. His other Pineapple Press books include the Best Back Roads series: Vol. 1 (Central) The Heartland; Vol. 2 (South) Coasts, Glades, and Groves; and Vol. 3 (North) Beaches and Hills. He has a master’s degree in history from Northwestern University and lives in central Florida, from where he and his wife, Mary, are continually exploring the state.
