Off the Beaten Path,

This is the second book that I have purchased in this series. I previous had the 1993 edition but while planning a trip to Tallahassee-St Marks recently, I realized that the area codes had changed and a recommended restaurant (Posey's) washed away in a hurricane a few years ago. The short coming of this book is that it's too small.

Living in North Florida I'm interested in some of the less commercial places to visit in the state. This book does a nice job of giving you ideas. The state park sysem is heavily featured as it should be. The Florida state park system has many excellant parks. If you are looking for shopping and entertainment this is not the book you want. This book features more 'do it yourself' places. If you like the outdoors and want to get off the interstate bring this book with you.

This book will keep you on the well beaten path,

As a 9 month resident of south Florida, I got this book to help me come up with ideas on what to do that would be far from the typical tourist track. My husband and I are avid campers/hikers and leave our area frequently to explore our new state.
I found this book put me on the well beaten path, the Ft Myers section in particular was disapointing, sending us to the heavily touristed island of Sanibel and other common attractions in the area. The southeast section, where we live, is also full of well known museums and attactions. Although the book does include many of the state parks and wildlife management reserves, it doesn't include the ones that are less visited by tourists.

Waste of money,

I generally enjoy the off beat series of books, and thought, since I'm going to Florida in a week, that I'd enjoy this book. I bought it for my Kindle and interestingly, read it.
It was capitivating, all those road side extras, that soemtimes are missed from the AAA books. I enjoyed reading about all of these fun things to do...until I began to check things out on the internet. What a waste of money this book is for me! I live in Missouri. I'm glad I didn't go by this book, as my only guide! The Splendid Chinese Park is not there, it has been in foreclosure, since 2005. Marineland has no good ratings anywhere, and there's no way I'm kaing an 18 year old, and a 16 year old there. Just those few differences, made me wish I'd not bought this book. I could've spent 7.96 on a better book! Amazon should be ashamed of themselves for this. I actually should call customer service, and demand a refund. Maybe I will. |
