Editorial Reviews

Book Description

Updated edition of the best-selling guide to bicycling in Florida

"Whether on bike, foot, in-line skate, or even horse, this trail book can help you find the paths and know what to expect when you get there, and what you might find along the way."--Tallahassee Democrat

"Good for those who are far from home and appreciate having few surprises on a grueling bike ride into the backcountry, even on a paved pathway."--Outdoor Adventure Magazine

"A must for people who enjoy the parallel pleasures of cycling and sightseeing."--Travel Writer Marketletter

"Kunerth took about a year to ride the trails in the book. Sometimes, it was a matter of day trips from Orlando. Other times, he and his wife took long weekends to the Panhandle or South Florida to ride four or five trails."--Jacksonville Times-Union

"Jammed with the info cyclists venturing into the unknown crave. There are simple maps that point out where to park, restrooms, water, crossroads, and 'watch out' places where extra caution is required along the routes."--Gainesville Sun

"Readers are advised where to find trendy shopping on Miami's M-Path; where to find a bike rack at the Flagler mansion in Palm Beach (just outside the front gate), and which trail goes by the second largest nudist colony in Florida."--Florida Bicycle Messenger

This thoroughly revised volume includes updated information on the more than forty trails featured in the first edition (and the deletion of one trail destroyed during the hurricane season of 200405). It also features detailed listings and descriptions of nineteen additional bike paths from across the state, built or completed in the past seven years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Made our vacation, March 6, 2001
By
Alvin Golub and Gail Morse (Brooklyn, NY United States) - See all my reviews

Thanks to this book we had a vacation of a lifetime. The author's knowledge of bike routes is unsurpassed. He took us to the Everglades where we counted 137 aligators as we rode by them. Also, he knew all the great parts of the bike lane from Key Largo to Key West. We traveled on all of them using his recommendations. When we got to the end of the good parts we did a reversal and it was just as enjoyable. His information was 100% accurate.

This book has very detailed descriptions and good maps of Florida's paved bike trails. It's great for anyone who is looking for places to ride, whether you're trying to stay away from traffic or planning a trip.

2.0 out of 5 stars Could be better, January 29, 2009
By

(REAL NAME)
This book gives a very good description of what one can see along the trails but lacks information on intermediate trail access other than what the authors calls the 'Trailhead'. Perhaps some people want to start on the other end or in the middle but there is no description on how to get there. In this age of GPS units in almost every vehicle, GPS coordinates for trail access points are a necessity but none are listed. Some people run shuttles in order to do sections of trails only one way but there is no help, especially for folks that come from far away to ride these trails. The maps are adequate at best. The Office of Greenways & Trails brochures are much better in listing access directions.
