Florsheim no longer means quality,
By
This review is from: Florsheim Men's Lexington Wingtip Oxford (Shoes)
When this pair arrived, they looked nice, as expected, but they had an annoying sole squeak on the first wearing, something that usually wouldn't appear until much later in the life of the shoe. A second pair had the same problem. Clearly, the quality of construction is no longer there. 20 years ago I could buy from Florsheim and expect a few years of wear with care, but now the shoes need repaired before they can be worn the first time (if you don't want an embarrassing squeak. Don't go cheap, and don't be fooled by what was once a name of quality for the masses.

Although I've worn Florsheim's my entire adult life, I shopped around before opting for the Lexington Wingtips. I considered going with Florsheim Imperials but they're just a little too pricey as were the Allen Edmonds. With that in mind, I considered a pair of Executive Imperials (knock off brand) but ultimately went with Florsheim's because it's a name you can trust. I'm glad that I did because these shoes are so very comfortable right out of the box and once 'broken' in you'll wear them daily without complaint. Bottom line, the Lexingtons are quality built shoes, attractive and comfortable at a reasonable price. I wish everything were this simple! One last thing...wingtips equal timeless fashion - no one will ever know they're not Imperials unless they see the bottoms, even if they do they'll probably think you have great taste with a frugal personality!

Happy Walker,

The pair of Mens's Flolrsheim shoes I bought was and excellent buy. Having a narrow foot, does cause me problems in buying shoes. it was great to not only find the width of "Be" but to find the style of shoe I wanted. The shoes fit perfectly, and are very comfortable. I am very pleased with the purchase.

Well made, but hard pair of shoes,

I've always wanted to own a pair of Florsheims, but in Malaysia, a typical pair starts at around US$250.00. Plus, very few stores carry them. I was thus delighted to see Amazon carry the Lexingtons for USD 109.00. I wear a European size 10 (US 11) but I read in a review that Florsheim makes their shoes big, so I went with a size 10.5EE as I have broad feet.
Out of the box, the first thing that struck me was how small the shoes appeared. Sure enough, lined up against my Hush Puppies and Scholls, the Florsheims were at least an inch shorter! They were, however a half inch longer than my favorite pair of loafers. I tried them on and groaned cos these shoes were so stiff, in fact they were hard! The first day, I wore them briefly. They DID NOT SQUEAK, regardless of walking surface. They felt well built and sturdy and had very good grip. They also had a brilliant shine, although the finish was not as great as the picture on the Amazon site. The second day was a full on affair, lasting approximately 16 hours. I came back with abraded skin on my toes, blisters over my outer ankle bone, and severe pain in my midfoot, the area below the tongue of the shoe. Hands down, these were the most uncomfortable shoes I've ever owned. The shoe had been made in such a way that the area around the ankle was narrow, with the prominent tongue of the shoe cutting into the skin there. Again, the super stiff leather didn't help, constantly prodding against the skin and ankle bones. The short shoe laces made lacing-up a trying affair, and do no favors for a premium brand shoes. Now, I've been wearing them daily for a week, and I've begun to tolerate them. They are still far from comfortable, and the hard sharp edged tongue and the narrow space around the laces still torment my right foot. The shoes are also difficult to slip on and often nearly impossible to take off! Afterwards, I'll hobble around for a bit while cursing my decision to buy these shoes. Perhaps, I should have gone with a size 11. My advice to future buyers would be to get a slightly larger size than what you'd normally buy. These, as other reviewers have noted, are not shoes that break in easily( I've never had to break in the plethora of Hush Puppies and Scholls I've owned). So, spare yourself the agony and go with a bigger size. Or better still, ignore these shoes and go for something made with a softer variety of leather. However, they do look classy and have a great shine, hence the 3 stars!

Very stylish shoe. Very shiny. A bit narrower than I imagined, but I have a narrow foot so they fit great. They're real stiff at first, so I now have blisters just under my outer ankle bone on both feet; I walk about a mile a day though. I expect them to soften, form around my foot, and feel real nice in a couple weeks. If they do, I'll move them up to 4 stars..
Update (5/30/11): Took very long to break in. The top of the heel area, where your foot enters the shoe, also became worn; The thin leather started peeling off.. I'll pass on these next time around.

These shoes are for my husband, who is well pleased with them. They are good quality for the price and very dressy and attractive. The shoe is a little stiff and slow to break in, but become quite comfortable after a few wearings. They hold a shine well.

The shoes turned up within a week and a half of ordering and were exactly as expected. They fit like a glove. A little squeaky at the moment but hopefully that will go as the shoes are worn in

My husband has had two pairs of this shoe for as long as I can recall. Holds up well. I have had it resoled multiple times over the years. It was time for a new pair.

These shoes were a little more expensive than I wanted to pay, but they are terrific shoes. They have a great style and a bright shine to them, which matches the rest of my professional attire at the office. I haven't had these long enough to discuss reliability, but I do own another pair of Florsheim shoes and those are still going strong.
