5.0 out of 5 stars Flossing Made Easy!
As a dentist of over 20+ years experience, I have seen over and over again the results of not flossing one's teeth. The unfortunate result of such neglect is inevitable gum disease, which over time leads to tooth loss. 1.0 out of 5 stars Floss and snap
I purchased the Flossaid Dental Floss Holder from teethnthings.com through Amazon. The plastic "y" snapped in half after about six months. I am not a vigorous flosser, but this instrument wasn't up to the job. And the shipping cost essentially doubled the price! No more "flossaid" for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flossing Made Easy!, April 7, 2007
This review is from: Flossaid Dental Floss Holder **ONE** (Health and Beauty)
As a dentist of over 20+ years experience, I have seen over and over again the results of not flossing one's teeth. The unfortunate result of such neglect is inevitable gum disease, which over time leads to tooth loss. Gum disease almost always starts in-between the teeth and the only way to clean the germs that cause gum disease from between the teeth is with floss. Mechanical scrubbing with floss is the key, and all the daily brushings and rinsings will not remove the in-between stubborn plaque below the gumline. The bottom line is that we need to floss our teeth if we want to keep them for a lifetime.

I have heard all the excuses for not flossing: The floss is too hard to handle, my fingers turn blue, my fingers are too fat, I'm too clumsy, the floss hurts my gums, etc, etc. The Flossaide Dental Floss Holder removes most of these excuses. Of all the floss aides available, this one is the best. It has a long handle to reach way back in one's mouth, the floss is easy to load, the device is strong and will last years, and best of all, it is reusable. No more having to run to the store because the disposable flossers are gone! Load it with your favorite floss and you are set for healthy gums and teeth.

I have recommended this floss aid to my patients over the years and I strongly recommend it to you as well. One still has to develop the habit of flossing daily, and this device aides in the mechanics of flossing, making it a breeze. Get it and save your teeth!

5.0 out of 5 stars much better than disposables, April 11, 2009
This kind of floss holder used to be common before the disposable types came out. When my previous one broke (I'm not sure how old it was, around 10 years or so), I searched many stores locally without success before I found these on line.
There are several advantages to this type of holder compared to the disposables:

- Use any kind of floss you want (waxed, unwaxed, dental-tape, whatever)

- long handle allows me to get the back teeth without jamming my fingers in my mouth

- around 1" of floss exposed; easy to work into difficult areas (I have very close set teeth and have to work the floss back and forth to get between some of them)

- The device allows enough control that I can also use it to stimulate the gums around the teeth (OK, a disposable can do that too, but its hard to get fine control with my fingers jammed in my mouth for the back teeth)

- A spool of floss lasts about a year, the handle should last many years.

- The handle is easy to clean, just rinse it like a toothbrush. It doesn't come into contact with your gums; it just touches the inside of the cheek.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great little tool., September 3, 2007
This review is from: Flossaid Dental Floss Holder **ONE** (Health and Beauty)
I bought this on a whim and it definitely has helped me keep a regular flossing schedule which I had trouble doing before. I like how I don't need to buy replacement head packs like the other flossers out there. I can just use whatever floss I have. My only gripe is they could have made the prongs a little closer together so it would fit in my mouth a little easier.

Some advice: Make sure you get shred proof floss when using this.

....with a few nitpicks of course. Price and effectiveness are fine, its much easier to floss with this thing (particularly with the back teeth!!) than it is with just plain floss or those cheezy disposable plastic flosser/pick things. In my opinion though I think they should've made it out of something a little stronger. Oh it doesn't feel or look flimsy at all at first, but in order to get good tension on the floss while putting it on you have to squeeze the arms of the floss holder together fairly firmly, otherwise the floss can fall off the holder easily or be difficult to pull out of the tight spots. I've only been using mine for a few days but I'm always worried I'm going to accidentally snap it while putting the floss on (and no I'm not squeezing the arms together more than the 3/4" the instructions specify!!) since it appears to be made out of cheap acrylic plastic, which in my experience doesn't hold up well to pressure at all. Perhaps its just me being worried over nothing...

5.0 out of 5 stars Only way to floss - get Flossaid, September 25, 2009

For many years now, we've used Butler brand flossers which were originally provided by our dentist. The original Butlers were of fairly stiff, opaque, plastic such that the forks don't flex too much and hold the floss nice and taut. It was thus easy to manipulate the floss between every tooth in your mouth (even for those with a small mouth, like me).

Problem 1: Once every few years, flossers break.

Problem 2: Last time we replaced the Butlers (several years ago, bought in a drugstore), they changed the plastic - to a more flexible and translucent type. Though the shape of the flosser didn't change, it didn't work nearly as well as the original, more rigid type of plastic, as the more flexible forks meant that the floss would either be looser, or you'd have to pull the forks too close together to get it taut. Not nearly as good, but still, we got by.

Problem 3: We noticed that you can't even find "permanent" flossers like these brnads in the stores any more - just the disposables. So when another Butler finally broke, I turned to the web.

Lo and behold, Amazon listed both Butler, and these Flossaid ones. Knowing that the Butler would likely be the newer, more flexible plastic (not good), I figured I'd try Flossaid. At this price, you can't go wrong to try them - even with shipping.

So bottom line, if you want to floss your teeth easily and regularly - develop a daily flossing habit - you need these babies. Get a set of three Flossaid and you won't regret it. They're just a little bigger than the original Butlers, and the plastic is similarly stiff. With a pack of 3, you have one for you, your mate, travel kit...

As for re-using the same inch of floss on all your teeth as someone mentioned - get over it. It's better than the alternative - not flossing. I just advance the floss one turn each time I clean, so a single 2-foot length of floss lasts a week or more. Happy teeth! For less than $20 you get 3 flossers, delivered - the Long Tail in action!

5.0 out of 5 stars These make flossing more like tooth brushing, December 29, 2007
I have given these to people and they thank me all the time. I love mine and have had it for years. You don't have to buy replacement heads all the time like the other brands.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perhaps the Best Floss Holder on the Market, June 15, 2009
This is the flosser I use in my office. It has a stout plastic handle with two forks with slots for easy loading of a piece of dental floss (of your choice). The floss is secured by wrapping it around the mid-handle button.

This flosser enables the user to reach all areas of the mouth quite easily. No more purple floss-wrapped fingers!

With three to a package, this is a bargain, as the flossers will last years. Get one for each family member!

Flossing is often the most overlooked oral hygiene practice, yet, is essential for cleaning off plaque from between the teeth. Flossing prevents cavities in-between the teeth, and also cleans away gum disease pathogens. Brushing and rinsing is not enough - make flossing a part of your daily oral hygiene habit.

The only floss that I have (occasional) problems loading onto the holder is Glide. It is "slippery" and may loosen, therefore, it takes an extra wrap or two around the handle button.

It uses a lot of floss, but it gets everything. It's sturdy, but I'm already seeing a little rust on the metal that holds the knob to the stick.

STILL, I use organic, sustainable recycled floss with this, and it helps me feel a little better than everyone else ^-^

5.0 out of 5 stars Much easier than any other, similar, product!!!, January 11, 2008
This review is from: Flossaid Dental Floss Holder **ONE** (Health and Beauty)
I call these "wishbone" flossers. I prefer them because you can load with floss tape which I believe gets the area between your teeth, and below the gumline, much cleaner than regular floss.

Service from this seller was promptly handled and would hope to use them again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not a me-too review!, December 16, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Flossaid Dental Floss Holder **ONE** (Health and Beauty)
I've used several of the Flossaid holders over the past 15 years or so, and tried a number of other makes as well. For me, the Flossaid works better than the rest, good reach and a handle that allows manuevering. It doesn't have to "use a lot of floss" as some other reviews state: simply unwind a couple of turns of floss from the handle and re-string.

There is a fatal flaw. This flosser will break after a year or two. The plastic will eventualy crack and break in two where the small brass rivet goes through to hold the wind button as this hole creates a stress point. This doesn't take away from my 5 star rating, as I consider the holder as a consumable - - it's cheap enough and lasts long enough to get good use vs. cost.
