Book Length: More than 250 Pages (105,000 words).

Initial Reviews:

"Is book #2 as good as #1 in the series? Yes.... Book #2 ends like a good series book should.... The plot and storyline lends itself easily to being a long and enjoyable series." -- Anthony Wessel reviews books for The Kindle Book Review

"I was honestly very surprised. I had very high expectations of the second installment after reading the first book, but I have to say that it went far beyond my expectations. It was a FANTASTIC read!! I had a lot of instances where I felt my heart about to burst from excitement, anger, and happiness for the characters. The writing was even better than the first book. Mister David Forsyth, you have written a masterpiece!" -- 5 stars from
Kawaiileena in The Philippines.

Rave reviews for "Voyage of the Dead":

"Without a doubt one of the better Zombie books."
Anthony Wessel reviewer

"This is one of those books that starts with a bang and I read waiting for the pace to slacken, except it doesn't. Too often, books of this kind start out with an action scene, and then we get chapters of backfill and descriptions of the soap opera-like travails of our characters. While Forsyth indeed fills in the characterizations, the key quality of this book is that most valuable in any kind of thriller--PACING." John S.

"What a truly entertaining read. I started reading on Friday morning and couldn't put the book down until I finished. Not just your everyday, run-of-the-mill, ho-hum story of the apocalypse." -- 5 stars from Paul Jones, author of "Extinction Point" and "Towards Yesterday."

"Gorey, pulpy, zombie fun! Basically it's the A-Team meets Battlestar Galactica meets The Walking Dead. If this were a show I'd watch it." -- 5 stars from Nathan Yocum, author of "The Zona."

“The Walking Dead meets Battlestar Gallactica! This novel has all the ingredients for an epic series of books and would be great for television too. It's like a Star Trek of the Zombie Apocalypse...” Tom McWilliams

"Flotilla of the Dead" is the second book by David P. Forsyth. A third book in the "Sovereign Spirit Saga" will be released later this year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flotilla of the Dead (Sovereign Spirit Saga) April 11, 2012

The second in the Sovereign Spirit Saga continues with the rebuilding of America or at least the coastal section - guess those of us who live inland are kind of screwed :-) by Scott and the team that he has gathered. We also have the split story line continuing with Carl and his group at the refinery, several miles from the coast, who are also trying to survive.

And what a team that is... He has a Coast Guard unit, a Seal unit, a famous retired cruise ship, a flotilla of average people on boats following him, and now some tanker crews who were stuck at the port when the apocalypse hit, along with his family and friends. These folks, along with all the cool toys, make it a fun read.

The team are making inroads in securing food and safety for his people when he runs into local politics. Yes, someone finally notices that there is an entire "navy" hanging at the port and want to investigate what is going on. Without giving any spoilers, I enjoyed that part of the story - mainly for the "bluffing", the no nonsense talking, and the results.

I also enjoyed the fact that Scott's wife is starting to become more than a bit character. Before, we only heard about her when Scott was getting ready for bed or trying to get some "happy time" which didn't feel right. A man with as strong of a personality as Scott would have to have a wife who was intelligent and interesting in her own right and we finally start to see that. I hope that the author includes more of her in the future books.

At the same time, we still have Carl and his group hanging out at the refinery, trying to survive. While Scott is more of an "action" type of character (he has his idea men and then makes sure that things are accomplished - with his input of course), Carl is basically leading by himself. The others in his group rely entirely on his choices, his ideas, his decisions, which puts a lot of pressure on him. He comes up with a VERY creative solution for keeping the zombies away from the fences which was cool.

I was very upset when I turned on my iPhone to read a few pages before I went to bed (I do my kindle reading on it) because I opened up the Kindle app and there was Flotilla! That was not a good thing since it was midnight.. curse you, Mr Forsyth because, even though I had to get up at 7 am for work and to get the kids off to school, I still stayed up reading under the covers (so I wouldn't disturb my husband - you would have thought I was 12!) until almost 3 am so I could finish it. I guess for the next installment, I need to be better prepared and check my kindle app when it is still daylight :-)

Can't wait to see what happens next!

5.0 out of 5 stars A nervous wreck! April 2, 2012

You know when you LOVE a book and wait anxiously for the next one....and then you are so worried that when it does come out it will let you down, or that it wont be as good as the first???? WELL THANK GOD THAT DID NOT HAPPEN WITH FLOTILLA OF THE DEAD!!! It was just as good as the first, if not better! The only problem is that I can't wait for the next one. The story just gets better and better. The character development is full and vivid. I feel as if I am right there in the mayhem! The author writes in a way that puts you directly in the action. Thank you Mr. Forsyth for a great read....keep writing!

Mister David Forsyth, you have written a masterpiece! The book only left me hungry for more. It was a long read, but I truly wished it was longer. When the two main characters teamed up to defeat the horde of zombies, I felt as if I was with them as well, cheering and whistling with pride.

Sigh! The foreshadowing of future events that may take place in the third book has left me wanting more. I hope the third book is on its way!!

More About the Author

Why do some people find stories depicting the horrific end of civilization appealing? I can't speak for everyone, but as the author of apocalyptic zombie novels, I have given that question some serious thought. Having grown up with the constant threat of nuclear annihilation, I was always attracted to doomsday books featuring various post-apocalypse survival scenarios.

One of the most popular type of apocalyptic themes these days features zombies. Zombies engender feelings of fear and revulsion. A well told zombie tale is full of tension, suspense, and the expectation of violent conflict. Most importantly, zombies are the perfect villains because it is cool to kill them!

The audience doesn't feel sorry for them, at least not after they become zombies. So the reader, or viewer, wants to see them cut to pieces. They want to be exposed to vivid and gratuitous violence inflicted on the undead hordes threatening the vestiges of humanity.

We live in a day and age when the impossible has become common place. Technology has changed our lives in ways that we are only beginning to appreciate, making life both easier and more complex. Things like cell phones and cloning were only science fiction when I was a boy. So who's to say that zombies are impossible? Apocalyptic stories showing how bad life could become also remind us of how far we have come and that the farther our civilization advances, the farther it has to fall in the event of an apocalyptic event.

Even those who feel that life has treated them unfairly can relate to a fictional world where their destiny is suddenly up to their own survival drive and ingenuity. Where good and evil are truly black and white. Imagine a world where simply staying alive places you in the top 1%! If that idea is at all appealing to you, then you are a potential fan of apocalyptic fiction and might like the books I write.
