My title for the review says it all.
This is reminiscing of Delerium, Enigma, Enya, and Ofra Haza. Single Gun Theory's music is at times, Middle-Eastern influenced. It transports you into another world.

1.0 out of 5 stars Psychobabble new-age mood-ring music
Yuck! This disk has so much echo-chamber effects on it that it reminds me of the Lennon Sisters from Lawrence Welk!! Lyrics like "all limitations are self-imposed" say it all. Lots of sound effects cover up the fact that there isn't much melody either. Maybe a few teen-age girls will find it meaningful.

My title for the review says it all.
This is reminiscing of Delerium, Enigma, Enya, and Ofra Haza. Single Gun Theory's music is at times, Middle-Eastern influenced. It transports you into another world.

When I first heard the track "Fall", I knew I had to buy the CD. All the songs pull you into the music, and offer intense pleasure to the ears. This particular track ("Fall") sounds like something as an opening track to a Delerium album. You can envision an Arabic temple nearby, and where there are women bearing water jugs and children running and playing happily. I can taste, smell and hear everything in a landscape like that.

The 3 member band hails from Australia. You wouldn't think so, once hearing the Middle-Eastern arrangements.
By the way... all the music on the CD was recorded in Vancouver, Canada.

Here is the tracklist:

Transmission,
Fall,
The sea of core experience,
I've been dying,
Decimated,
My estranged wife,
Phenomena,
Metaphysical,
The point beyond which something will happen,
Thetan,
Motherland,
Still closest to my heart

Funny how I always get to liking a CD after 4 or 5 years or more, have passed since its release. I have only heard of this band since a month ago. Was hooked on the mp3's that I downloaded of this CD. Liked the album so much I decided it was time to buy it last week. What a great buy! This CD is totally worth the money.

Any CD from Nettwerk Productions is usually worth having. This one holds strong in my ever-growing eclectic CD collection.

Hope this review is helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal, March 26, 2004

This is my favorite album of the past 10 years, and the finest album of the 90s. I first saw them back up Sara McLachlan in 1994 and while I wasn't impressed with the sound quality in the concert, the songs were intriguing. I bought the album and it became imprinted in my mind within a week. For 6 months, I almost listened to nothing else. This album made a HUGE impression on me. My favorite line from the album, originally from Fripp's Exposure: "It is impossible to achieve the aim without suffering."

5.0 out of 5 stars From Start to End A Complete Work of Art, July 14, 2003
This review is from: Flow River of My Soul (Audio CD)
CALMING! This is one of my favorite albums ever - I bought this when the album was first released in Australia, listened to it to death, gave it to a friend... then bought it again because I missed it. Now, many years on from its release, it is still a great listen from start to end. The songs fit together like jigsaw pieces, feeding into each other with smooth perfection. The various verbal entries and spiritual references match the mood of the album perfectly. I recommend it highly! Thank you also to 'A Little Taste of Euphoria' reviewerer for the interesting background on the album. A beautiful album to listen to at any time - the only thing bad about it is that it is not longer...

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous, clever, emotional, March 30, 2005
This review is from: Flow River of My Soul (Audio CD)
Single Gun Theory have put out only a small number of recordings over their fifteen year history. All of them, including this, have been marvelous. Emotional, silky smooth vocals, clever electronic music, lyrics that almost go too far in their use of metaphors, but never do. "Motherland" is still the saddest song ever ever ever written and is included in this album. And that is a big compliment. But this band isn't soppy, just adventurous. SGT have made some wonderful gothic, up-energy and plain beautiful music. Take some pain and overwhelm it until it dies.....This band should have been much more well known than it is. A hidden gem.

5.0 out of 5 stars we are now floating, April 11, 2001
This review is from: Flow River of My Soul (Audio CD)
this album, mysteriously unavailable at present, has been in my cd collection since it's original release way back in 93 (kidding about the way back bit)

an ecclectic combination of poppish tunes (think book of love revamped and more mythical and throaty) combined with indian (as in india not native american) singing, war soundbites, paranormal frequencies and metaphysical/twin peaks sensibilities.

what do you get?

one really fine album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flow, River of My Soul, April 15, 2001

Simply put, this is, in my opinion, the single greatest achievement in the modern musical world. Flow, River of My Soul can only be described as the absolute perfect blend of beats, dreamlike ethereal vocals, brilliant sampling, and masterful ambiance and atmosphere.

Single Gun Theory, after having long been quiet after this release (originally from 1994), are actually making a quiet return.

This summer, Eleven: A Music Company will be releasing an album by Paul Mac in which Jacqui Hunt is responsible for the vocals on three of the tracks. Also, Single Gun Theory is predominantly responsible for the upcoming Monkey's Mask soundtrack...the soundtrack should be available in late March from ABC Music (in Australia).

This re-released version also contains all of the remixes and version of Motherland and Fall that were originally included on the rare "Motherland" single (5 extra tracks!)

Buy it...you won't regret it :)

5.0 out of 5 stars The welcome return of... Single Gun Theory, May 5, 2001
This review is from: Flow River of My Soul (Audio CD)
In my humble opinion, this is one of the best world beat albums ever. If you love erotic eastern rhythms, heavenly female vocals and hypnotic sample loops, this one is a must buy! More than just a musical experience, there is such a profound poetical quality to this album. It seems fitting that Single Gun Theory were recently asked to write the music for the film of Dorothy Porter's erotic poetry novel, "The Monkey's Mask". (A friend of mine who worked on the film in Australia tells me SGT's new single "Illusion" is FANTASTIC!) I've since spoken with Nettwerk Records, but they don't have a release date for "The Monkey's Mask" soundtrack CD as yet... Can't wait to see the film!

5.0 out of 5 stars AT LONG LAST, REAL SOUNDS FOR THE SOUL!, April 10, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Flow River of My Soul (Audio CD)
Finally, the US re-issue of one of the best electronica albums of the 90s. Originally released in 1995, "Flow, River Of My Soul" is arguably Single Gun Theory's finest achievement (although their score to the forthcoming erotic thriller "The Monkey's Mask" is yet to be heard -- get your act together Nettwerk!). Drawing upon five years of recordings made in India, Turkey and Asia, Single Gun Theory have given us a surprisingly exotic and uniquely spiritual experience. Highlights such as "I've Been Dying", "Metaphysical" and "Thetan", with their hypnotic keyboard washes, inspired drum loops and sublime poetic vocals (courtesy of the divine Jacqui Hunt), simply sweep you away in their sheer splendour. There is absolutely no filler on this disc; every track is part of an intriguing and personal voyage of discovery into love, life and death. As an added bonus, this special edition of "Flow, River Of My Soul" includes remixes of the singles "Fall" and "Motherland". If only this album played on forever, but as SGT rightly say, "Energy Never Dies"...

4.0 out of 5 stars Erotic etheral enlightening, May 4, 2003

This review is from: Flow River of My Soul (Audio CD)
This is a rare CD for me. I saw SGT open for Sarah Mclachlan some 10 years ago and I was intrigued. I got a cassette single from that show and always told myself I would get the CD. Nine years pass. I found the cassette, played it, went out and bought the CD..finally. It's great. The trance that I was put in during their show was evoked again. The concept of a poetic, etheral, rhythm-driven new-age-esqe world beat CD sounds bloated and self-important, but everything works on this release. THis is a treasure of the 90s. "Estranged Wife" is phenomenal.

This album is an amazing ride from start to finish. I'm one that loves great music, and this album is one of the few that I give five stars.

Instead of me describing this unique and wonderful album, just give the preview a listen. It's potent, so it won't be loved by everyone.
