Replaces the Old Lakewood 18" High-Velocity Fan, October 2, 2010
This review is from: FlowPro High Velocity Floor Fan - 18in., 4550 CFM, 1/8 HP, Model# 10180 (Kitchen)
Like many others (apparently), we wanted a second fan to rapidly clear the air in a small apartment with horrible ventilation. And we simply wanted to buy another Lakewood, a fan that works like a champ. At least it did, back in the "old days" before some idiot with a collidje degree had "a better idear." The new Lakewoods are nothing like the old ones, so we did a lot of shopping.
Reading mostly reviews here on Amazon, we found lots of people talking about the FlowPro HV fan. Figuring that there wasn't much else on the market, we gave it a shot. They were out of stock, but had a probable in-stock and delivery date. By gosh, not only did the company get more inventory ahead of schedule, they shipped immediately. We got our fan right ahead of the expected delivery/ship date. As such, the company has excellent customer service, they really keep on the ball with their inventory, and we were nicely impressed.
We plugged in the fan. Unfortunately, this sucker is loud! But it sure does move the air! Our main problem is a living room window and bedroom window facing the same direction, with a central wall between the two. To get air from outside into the apartment has always been a problem. This fan, on LOW setting pulls air like you wouldn't believe!
We set up the fan on the floor in the living room, facing OUT-ward, right next to the patio window screen door. Then we opened the bedroom window and turned the fan on its lowest setting (of three). Right away, the fan set up an actual breeze in the bedroom! Actual wind was coming in the bedroom window, enough so to move the drapes, which are fairly heavy.
Perfect! The only downside---and this is in comparison to the Lakewood----is that the fan makes a pretty significant buzzing sound as the blades cut through the air. It's loud enough to be about the same as a cheap box fan that would be in the bedroom. In other words, the decibel level (and sound itself) from the living room, around the main wall, is the same as the box fan makes, with the box fan in the bedroom.
We concluded that the trade-off between having real ventilation at night in the summer, versus the "white noise" of the fan (which really isn't all that bad, all things considered) is worth the effort. Having used it now, we also found that the white noise does mask outdoor sounds like traffic, kids shouting and so forth.
Bottom line is that you can't find a powerful ventilating fan that's totally quiet; not anymore, what with Lakewood having their "better idea." This FlowPro fan, though, is a superb product and easily moves all the air in a typical apartment. We're happy.

Was Not Out Of The Box For More Than 30 Minutes!, October 29, 2010
This review is from: FlowPro High Velocity Floor Fan - 18in., 4550 CFM, 1/8 HP, Model# 10180 (Kitchen)
The Flow Pro is not a high velocity fan! There are three (3) speeds and when you switch through them they are not significantly different from each other. I judged the fan weak and not that of high velosity. I bought this because of a review I relied on. I was wrong, and the review was too generous. Don't buy this fan, it does not deliver.
