This review is from: Flower Arranging (Teach Yourself) (Paperback)
I have several books on floral arts and this tiny book is the most concise. While taking a class at the NY Botanical Gardens, I found it to be a more effective resource that the course book! This book is small and to the point. It contains design techniques and many illustrations. I also love her book Flower Arranging Style, which is much more elaborate.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent aid to the beginning flower-arranger!, May 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Flower Arranging (Teach Yourself) (Paperback)
This is the most helpful book in my flower-arranging library. The author explains the nitty-gritty detail of selecting and conditioning the flowers, the mechanics of holding the arrangement together, and the development of traditional floral designs. I bought copies for three friends.

Simple step by step instructions, with black and white drawings and some color photos. This is a good book to keep in your floral "bag of tricks".

5.0 out of 5 stars With this book, you CAN teach yourself flower arranging., October 11, 2010

I own more than 25 books on Flower Arranging. Many books just show lovely pictures of flowers, and leaves the reader to try to figure out how the arrangement is made. Judith Blacklock is my favorite floral instructor because she combines beautiful floral work with real information on how to achieve similar results. If you purchase only one book on flower arranging, this is the one to own, particularly in the later addition, where she's added gorgeous color photographs. It's geared toward beginners, but would also be an inspiring book for experienced arrangers.

This book is simply amazing. I am a person who cares not for extravagance when it comes to things like decorating or arranging. Especially when it comes to trinkets and flowers. Some people love it and have the talent for it. I do not.

When I purchase a book on a subject I like the author to be knowledgeable and a teacher on the subject. Such is Judith Blacklock. Flower Arranging (Teach Yourself)is a true educational book that teaches the basics of beautiful and astonishing simple flower arranging techniques. In this book she gives descriptions, photos (color and black and white), and she breaks this complicated process, for me atleast, of flower arranging down step by step to give a better understanding of how it is done, with beautiful results. Although there are not many color photos which some people need, she gives the inspiration to create exciting arrangements on your own, with the information included in this text. So no fear, those who must have color photos. :)

Ms. Blacklock's book is unlike any other. She TEACHES. I'm sure that is why her books are so renowned. I would recommend this book to anyone who is afraid of even attempting to arrange flowers, whether for themselves or guests. I now can arrange flowers beautifully, without fear, thanks to Ms. Blacklock's book.

Enjoy
