The Big Day,
By The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers (RAWSISTAZ.com and BlackBookReviews.net) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Flower Girl Butterflies (Library Binding)
FLOWER GIRL BUTTERFLIES tells all about Sarah's preparations to be a flower girl in her Aunt Robin's wedding. She picks out her dress, prepares for visiting family, and attends the wedding rehearsal. Throughout all of these experiences she shares her feelings, at times she is excited and at others she is very nervous. When the big day arrives will she be ready?
Little girls in particular are sure to enjoy this book. The illustrations for the story are absolutely beautiful and really complement the story well. I also enjoyed the fact that Sarah shared her feelings; she described what she was feeling and then labeled it. This modeling is an excellent way for young readers to learn to identify and label their own feelings. However, there was no build up in anticipation of the big wedding day and as a result, the story lacks excitement and read more like a "to do" list for flower girls at times. Awesome book, but,
This review is from: Flower Girl Butterflies (Paperback)
This is a great book for a flower girl! I bought this for mine and she enjoys it! Her parents said she didn't put it down when she first received it! The book itself is awesome, great pictures and a nice story line. However, the condition I received it in was not so great. The description said, "Like New." This book was very worn with a sticker and writing on the inside. I have no idea why the seller thought this book was "like new!" I spruced it up as much as I could, but I was totally not pleased with its condition.

Perfect for a First Time Flower Girl,
This review is from: Flower Girl Butterflies (Hardcover)
My little one was put at ease about the huge responsibility of being a flower girl after several readings of this book.
She knew just what to expect and how to handle "Flower Girl Butterflies".

There is going to be a wedding and the little girl who is the main character in the story has been asked to be the flower girl! She is really excited. She gets to dress up in a pretty dress and walk down the aisle in front of her aunt. It's a very important job. She starts to think that it might be to hard. She thinks she might not to a good enough good. She gets scared. She talks with her family about it and they make her feel much better.
The little girl shared her feelings with her aunt about being scared. This shows kids that when you have scared feelings it's ok to talk with a grown up about them. I would recommend this book families who are getiing ready to have weddings. The book will be a great way to bring up discussions on lots of wedding matters like mammers and feelings about weddings.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful...,

Note: The vote on this review is not against the review, but against me by a malignant troll.
What a wonderful thing it is to include little children in weddings! What a delightful book "Flower Girl Butterflies" is! First, the illustrations. Christiane Kromer used watercolor, colored pencils, and collage to create the lovely, joyous images throughout the book. After I learned there is collage, I went back to look closely. Yes, that's how she achieved that layered, almost three-dimensional effect. The watercolors create a softened, romantic appeal. And the last two pages--ah, what a fantasy of sweet dreams in purples and lavenders and whites and lilacs! When I read this story to my four-year-old great-niece, Carolina, she asked so many questions about being a flower girl. Sarah is the little girl whose aunt asks her to be the flower girl in her wedding. You can see Sarah on the cover. Isn't she beautiful? But she is so scared about walking from way, way in back of the church to way, way down to the front. I related the story to Carolina's older brother. Three years ago when Carolina was just a year old, her older sister and brother were in their cousin's wedding as flower girl and ring bearer, respectively. Chelsea was fine with her job, but Colby. Oh my, at the rehearsal, he lay on the floor, crawled under a pew, and wailed that he could not do this. So did the little ring bearer in our book. It must be in the DNA of little boys to protest weddings even as children. Carolina was fascinated that her big brother was so scared! But back to our story. Another remarkable aspect of the book is the revelation of family: house guests, preparations, getting dressed, the hustling, the bustling of family celebrating a joyous occasion. Even with little Sarah's trepidations, this is such a happy book. At the reception everyone dances, even Sarah and the ring bearer! "Flower Girl Butterflies" belongs in every little girl's library for its realism, its fantasy, and its sheer beauty. You know what Carolina said after we finished the book? She patted the back cover and said, "That was a good story!" |
