2.0 out of 5 stars too dark, May 15, 2009
This review is from: Flower Fairies 2009 Wall Calendar: A Magical Moonlight Feast with Sticker(s) (Calendar)
Although the initial pictures are very cute, the use of the dark red and purple backgrounds makes this calendar very hard to read and impossible to see from across a room. I usually buy the Flower Fairy calendar each year there is one published for my kitchen. I put this one up and it came right back down the next day. I gave it to my Neice to color and make paper dolls.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cute Pictures, As Expected, But Writing On Pictures Ruins It!, January 9, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Flower Fairies 2009 Wall Calendar: A Magical Moonlight Feast with Sticker(s) (Calendar)
I had planned on taking the calendar apart at the end of the year and putting the pictures up in my little girl's room. Of course the pictures are cute enough, but there is writing on the pictures which ruins them. This isn't even handwriting: it's computer printing! This isn't endearing, as perhaps the artist or publisher thought it might be. I don't even want to look at the calendar, it makes me so mad!

5.0 out of 5 stars A practical calendar with beautiful and accurate botanical illustrations with children as fairies, by Cicely Mary Barker, August 8, 2009
This review is from: Flower Fairies 2009 Wall Calendar: A Magical Moonlight Feast with Sticker(s) (Calendar)
A nice representation of some of the color illustrations by British artist Cicely Mary Barker (1895-1973), I purchased both the 2008 and 2009 full sized calendars, and will continue to do so every year as long as is possible. As a handy and practical calendar with room to include post-it notes for reminders and appointments, this beautiful and affordable product offers both attractive form and versatile function. As a youth, Ms. Barker suffered from ill health and epilepsy, and while educated at home, she developed an interest in drawing botanicals and children, using real life models from the kindergarten class her sister Dorothy taught in the family home. Although unable to travel much, she was visited by staff from the Kew Gradens, who brought live specimens on which she based her illustrations. Ms. Barker also created Christian artwork on birthday cards, postcards, for a series of illustrated Bible stories, and as interior painted panels and walls in churches.

She helped to further the popularity of fairies and fairy based artwork and stories in the UK, aided by the lingering Victorian era values of childhood innocence and playfulness, and the enjoyment of fairy stories (such as J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan). Many of her illustrations were printed on postcards and in books which include several of her seasonal and floral based designs.

Although the 2009 calendar has far too many red/maroon colored backgrounds with less overall variety, I am glad the the Estate of Cicley Mary Barker provides license of products that enable fans today to purchase a variety of items on Amazon and on the [...] web site, including cards, puzzles, books, figurines, stationery, and more.
