I've bought 4 of these houses - in less than two years all of them have deteriorated -- the zippers have pulled away from the plastic, the screen has ripped away from the zippers and is disintegrating and now the plastic is ripping away from the frame - I live in New Mexico so the sun shines on the greenhouse most of the time but what is the big deal about that? these...

This little greenhouse it terrific! I love it and have told all my friends and relatives about it so they can get one too.

I bought it to "save" tomatoes and herbs in my kitchen garden from freezing too soon. Our nights have dropped to freezing starting the last week of August and I had been going out to cover everything in flannel sheets and comforters every night then going out every morning to uncover them for daytime when it would be hot and sunny. It was just like having kids to put to bed every night and I couldn't leave home without worrying about not getting things covered before the night air got cold. Now I have this greenhouse, I just unzip the doors on the top section to allow for venting if the day is too warm and the air in the greenhouse stays just right even if I don't get home until after dark to zip it up all the way. The plants have really benefited from the added humidity too. I have even dug up some tomaoes, peppers and eggplants from the big garden and potted them in the greenhouse to see what happens. (The big garden has long since succumbed to the cold) They are starting to put out fruit and this greenhouse has given me at least one or two extra months for fresh produce and herbs.

Setup was a snap. I did it all by myself in nothing flat and then my husband gave me a hand with the tie downs because we have winds on a regular basis that can pick up a metal garage building and move it several feet. He was dubious about it staying put but by the time we got all the included tie downs in place he has changed his opinion.

Since the greenhouse is open on the bottom, I just slid it over my existing plants and then adjusted the position of the "skirting" on walls of my raised bed. After securing the tiedowns, I used some bricks on the outside skirting to secure it around the uneven terrain that I had errected it on. Next I installed the metal frame poles inside (they are just like the modern tent poles and go together within seconds if you read the directions and install them in the correct order.

The greenhouse comes in a nifty storage case and collapses down like those windshield sun screens that kinda coil up when not in use. Once my current kitchen garden plants have stopped producing, I plan to store the greenhouse and then set it up in a flat clear spot next spring for an early start on next year's goodies.

My terraced kitchen garden filled approximately one half of the greenhouse so I moved some garden shelves into one of the empty quarters and put a large wooden planter of herbs and strawberries in the other quarter. The shelves are holding 2 to 5 gallon pots with the vegetables I saved from the big garden before it froze. I still have more room if I want to fill it completely, but I left an aisle down the middle from one door to the next for now.

A little water goes a long way in this structure so I only water 2 - 3 times a week. I have more strawberries now than I had all summer and the tomatoes are really busting out.

There are small velcro'd openings for water hoses and power cords built in. I plan to set up a thermal controlled heat light this weekend as our first snow is due in a few days.

The doors have mesh screens as well as the polycarb door flaps. There are velcro straps all over for securing both sets of flaps.

We are installing a large sunroom/greenhouse to the front of our house next spring so this was the perfect little item for me to try out greenhouse gardening. I expect it to be a handy and useful auxilliary greenhouse for many years to come. No matter if you have a large garden or just a small bed, this greenhouse it really worth it's real estate in getting more from your plants in any climate. If I could, I'd buy several more and use them for cold frames in the big garden next year!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little greenhouse, March 31, 2005

I put this greenhouse up last weekend, and while I found the estimation of 5 minutes to set up a little optomistic for the first time, I could see approaching that with practice. (Closer to 30 minutes for me this first time!) It went up without problems, and the directions were clear and well illustrated in the manual. The materials are quality and the construction solid. I am very pleased with it. My plants will be well protected from the last cold weather of the season, and then I plan to set up seed-starting stations in it. It is a great little greenhouse, and would be very easy to move to different locations just by taking up the stakes and shifting it. Five stars.

This is a great little item. Like any tent-type structure you have to figure it out a little the first time (aha - poles go on the _inside_! - I get it). It's nice and sturdy and has room for several of those white plastic shelving systems you can get anywhere. I got a little ceramic heater at Lowes for $20 and added two black plastic tubs full of water for additional passive solar heating. Things are nice and tropical inside and my seeds are sprouting like mad. I hope to have a real full-size greenhouse someday but this is a fun and inexpensive starter.

Amazing! I was looking to build a little greenhouse off my covered back deck, so I didn't have to drag all my plants indoors all winter, and I found this! Camping for plants! The thing is plenty large, very sturdy, and easily erected. Screened as well as sealed door ways! Unbelievable, I can't build anything this sturdy, effective, and storable (even comes with a bag to store the thing in) for anywhere NEAR this price! VERY PLEASED!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Flowerhouse Spring House Portable Greenhouse, March 9, 2006
This review is from: Flower House FHSP300 SpringHouse Greenhouse (Lawn & Patio)
Excellent product. Though I have joint and back problems and some other physical problems, I was able to put this portable structure up myself with minimal difficulty. It does an outstanding job of protecting my plants from the frigid temperatures, strong winds, and heavy precipitation we've been having here in Seattle's North End the last couple of months. It won't be hard to take down and store come Spring -- important, as plants need plenty of Sunshine and warmth when that is available. I recommend it highly.

DO NOT BUY if you live in the southwest -- and their customer service? forget it -- non-existent

Flower House products are junk. Not worth the $. Easy to put together but did not last a whole season. I used tie downs and stakes but it still ripped and the fiberglass poles broke. Flower House customer service is non existent. I have e-mailed them over and over again and have never received the courtesy of a response. You can't buy replacement poles and the warranty is useless since they never respond. Don't waste your $.

3.0 out of 5 stars Initially exceeded expectations - disappointed with product life, September 18, 2008

I have wanted something like this for a long time, but considered it too expensive. Each year I built a portable greenhouse using pvc pipe, plastic sheets and clips to hold the plastic on. This item, for the money, beats the heck out of my homemade model. Sets up easy, comes down easy and is so nice with zippered doors...something my homemade model did not have.

The only problem I have had, after one year, setting it up again this fall, is that one of the reinforced pockets for the top pole tore out. Heavy thread and an upholstery needle (and a lot of work) put it back together. The pockets tend to "hide behind" the wire loop framework, so you need to get them clear to use them correctly - this is stated in the manual, but not clear until you have a problem!

Update: 8 April 2010
This spring the stitching that holds the door zipper to the cover ripped loose. It appears that the thread used in the stitching has rotted. I have written to the vendor to see if a replacement cover is available. If it is, and a reasonable price, then I will continue to be happy, since the form and function has been exactly what we wanted. However, if this is the "end of life" of the product, I question whether the three winters is reasonable life expectancy for the price.

Update: 9 April 2010
I got a nice note back from customer support. In short, the product is designed to last one season. Since the cover is 90% of the product, replacement covers are not available. I guess we need to consider ourselves lucky that it lasted 3 seasons. If I can edit my score, I will drop my rating appropriately. Far too expensive to be a one year item.

I purchased this greenhouse 2 years ago from Amazon.com. I love it. First year, I used it only in Spring for early starting of seedlings. It was great! Then in fall 2006, I set it up again and left it all winter with a small heater and a couple of 33 gallong garbage cans filled with water (for passive solar heating) and heated seedling mats. I grew some lettuce but not much more because even just keeping it slightly above freezing, my electric bill was $50 a month higher than normal. (New Jersey has high electric rates)

I just set it up today for my spring seedlings. I'll use the heater again because nights are still cold. It sets up quickly and easily and with the tie-downs never has problems with wind. I'd buy it again--althugh maybe a slightly larger model next time. I recommend it all the time.

1.0 out of 5 stars Low quality product., January 19, 2010
This review is from: Flower House FHSP300 SpringHouse Greenhouse (Lawn & Patio)
I live is Houston ,Texas. I have bought this one several years ago and used only one season (2 months). I have not used it again because I couldn't put it back together the following season. The frame somehow didn't fit very well together after just one season; so I gave up and purchase other greenhouse which I has been using for at least 4 years now.
