Clever, Funny, and Insightful, May 15, 2007
This review is from: Flower Of Life Volume 2 (v. 2) (Paperback)
Once again, Fumi Yoshinaga revels in the details of creating manga, her intellectual fetish for this series. In fact, in this volume, she follows the production of two separate manga. She also comments on the stereotypes associated with various genres of manga (including yaoi).
This volume includes the introduction of a new, central, and interesting female character. Harutaro plays a much smaller role in this volume, allowing the other characters to be fleshed out more.
Her work is often clever, funny, and insightful, and this is no exception.
However, there are a couple of times in this volume (and in the first volume, as well) where she seems to be using the manga as a soapbox. It's not overwhelming, by any means, but it is occasionally noticeable. Also, because she has such a large, ensemble cast for this series, no single character gets as much attention as he or she normally would in her other manga series.
