James Oliver Curwood was an early 20th century writer who lived in Michigan, where he published several novels a year. Curwood loved the outdoors and is known for his conservation efforts. In this romantic adventure tale of deception and fraud Philip Whittermore is constantly threatened. Curwood shows a society that is in danger of loosing its humanity. The story also has its share of romance after Phillip sees the most beautiful girl he has ever seen.
