4.0 out of 5 stars Good book, but be careful with plans!
This is a book that tries to accomplish a lot -- maybe too much. It covers many areas but often in a limited way. Nevertheless, it is good as a woodworking "survey" book and the material is attractively presented. There are a number of plans in the back of the book, and they are quite varied and different from what one often sees. Be careful, though! The author is...

3.0 out of 5 stars Too much
This book is written in a clear and concise style. It is illustrated by very nice color pictures.
The book contains usefull information but try to cover too many topics so at the end none of them is covered in enough details.
I would not recommend this book as the first book for a novice woodworker.

Nevertheless, it is good as a woodworking "survey" book and the material is attractively presented. There are a number of plans in the back of the book, and they are quite varied and different from what one often sees. Be careful, though! The author is not very careful with measurements and if you follow his plans blindly you may find that things don't come together as they should. If you spend some time with the plans first, you should be o.k.

Beautiful book, well layed out, full stitches all the way with elegant results, wide range of colors. I have bought this book a couple of years back and I recommend it to those who love stitching flowers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wrong color numbers!!!, June 12, 2007
This review is from: Flower Portraits in Cross Stitch (Hardcover)
I've heard some numbers are wrong, so the design doesn't come out as shown in the book. Be careful to buy the right thread color!

5.0 out of 5 stars Flower Portraits in cross stitch, January 8, 2010

I love this book. The designs are smaller than her first book which could have been a bit daunting for beginners. If you love cross stitching flowers this is really the book for you. I actually got one for me and one for my sister. I have done many of the flowers in this book and in her first edition I have never had a problem with the DMC floss color that others have been concerned with. My best advice is always buy enough for the project in the beginning so when you go back you don't face a different dye lot. If you are a cross stitcher buy this book, you won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flower Portraits In Cross Stitch by Thea Gouverneur, August 28, 2009

This review is from: Flower Portraits in Cross Stitch (Hardcover)
I have of late become obsessed with cross stitch and embroidery and a favorite warm-weather passion is growing
flowers. This book has 50 different flower designs approximately the same size, about 4x6 inches finished, worked on 36-count white linen using either Anchor or DMC stranded floss. Most of the projects are worked with one strand of thread over two threads of fabric. This gives the work a light and airy appearance which reminds me of a watercolor. The charts are large and very easy to read. The directions are clearly laid out. Although I am quite inexperienced, I am confident of being able to complete the designs. The book was very pricey, ordered through Amazon, but when divided by the cost for each pattern, it seems not so expensive. These designs make cross stitch look so much more elegant and beautiful than most. It will be a pleasure to work every one.
