another winner!,

This review is from: Flowers On Main (Chesapeake Shores) (Mass Market Paperback)
I admit that I was looking forward to this book's release from the excerpts and the fact that I loved Inn at Eagle Point, but this was better than I expected. This story is about finding yourself and reconnecting with someone who you never really stopped loving. I couldn't put it down.
One of the greatest things about Sherryl Woods books is that amongst the drama there is a great deal of humor. Bree came home for the opening of her sister's inn(which is feature in the Inn at Eagle Point) and she doesn't leave. Her life is at a crossroads after some critical reviews of the recent play she has written in Chicago. While trying to figure out how she wants to proceed with her life, her past comes back to her in the form of her ex Jake, where there is definitely some unresolved feelings. Also with the addition of her brother Kevin's story (which is out next month) and her parents possibly reuniting... let's just say I can't wait for next month.

Second book in the Chesapeake Shores series and another hit! How can you not love the gang, from grandma to Abby, Trace, Meggie, Jess, Bree and all the other lovable characters that make up these wonderful reads.
Bree comes back home, no one knows why she has stayed. Bree has kept to herself, and doesn't stay anything about her recent play flopping and her life with Marty the jerk on the rocks. Then she fills in because a wedding has no florist, and decides that is what she wants to do. However, her old flame, Jake is the only wholesale seller of floral items. Bree broke Jake's heart after the miscarriage, and he thinks she has come back to do it again. However, neither one of them can deny what they feel, and so they battle with each other and their feelings. As usual, Sherryl also has other side things going on, Meggie and Mick and then Kevin and his suprise.. I read a glimpse of Harbor Lights, I need to get my hands on that one next. I want to find out what happened to Kevin!!!!!!

Flowers on Main is Book two in the Chesapeake Shores series and is the story of Bree O'Brien and Jake Collins.
Bree O'Brien and Jake Collins were once an item six years earlier, Bree became pregnant, then had a miscarriage. Because she wasn't ready to begin a family and was set on becoming a playwright, she left Chesapeake Shores for Chicago to pursue her dream. Jake was devastated at the loss of the baby and his loss of Bree, and for six years he's been unable to get past his anger. So when Bree returns to her home after her third play flops, she is determined to do something else with her life. She's inherited a talent for flower arranging from her grandmother and decides to open a flower shop in town. The one stickler is that her only supplier is flower grower and landscaper Jake Collins. Their first encounters are sticky, to say the least, but Jake is persuaded by his sister Connie to sell to Bree, and Bree tries to be friends with her old flame, but he isn't having any of it. Author Woods' story revolves around the rowdy, fun-loving and meddlesome O'Brien clan-grandmother Nell, Mick and his ex-wife Megan who he is trying to woo back, their five children and Mick's two brothers. I enjoyed the camaraderie of the O'Briens, even enjoyed Jake's male bonding with buddies Mack and Will. Bree came across as realistic and likable, but Jake's anger at Bree seemed excessive and tiresome. I wanted to like him more than I did. Still, it's another part of the O'Brien family chronicles, and it's delightful to see what happens to characters one has come to know from the previous story. Definitely a book to get in this series. Ms. Woods has a lovely way with the family interaction that will keep you turning pages.

FRUSTRATING BOOK TO READ,
By Trish "Zealous about reading books" (La Mesa, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Flowers On Main (Chesapeake Shores) (Mass Market Paperback)
By the time I finished this book I was actually angry. Jake and Bree spent most of the book in just one fight after another; just when you finally think that Jake and Bree would quit fighting and start actually loving one another, they would have another fight and would not talk to each other for days. For crying out loud, they even had a fight one minute after having sex. Couldn't the author gave them at least a few days to actually build up a loving relationship. For me the fighting got old, tedious, and boring. Also, by the end of the book I felt that Jake was such a whiner that no woman would want to have a thing to do with him. I mean I know there were trust issues, but eventually you have to go for it and trust, or get the heck out of dodge quit whining about it. He seemed like he like to sulk more than he wanted to have a relationship.

The Inn at Eagle Point was the first, (Abby's story) - Now Bree follows on her heels. Will she go back to Chicago - or stay at Chesapeake Shores? It unfolds - at the VERY END! Great read - especially for summer!

Possibly my Favorite Chesapeake Shores story,

I have now read the entire series (minus The Summer Garden due out in Jan) and reflecting back I must say that Bree O'Brien is probably one of my favorite O'Brien characters which in turn makes this probably one of the best stories in the series! I love the trickiness and the intrigue that Bree O'Brien brings to this clan and the stubborness and just plain ole hotness that Jake Collins creates! This was truly a great read and possibly the best of the series!

Unlikeable characters made for uninteresting read,
This review is from: Flowers on Main (Chesapeake Shores) (Kindle Edition)
Looked forward to reading this second of the Chesapeake Bay series because I enjoyed the first one even though it really could have been more concise if a lot of repetitive introspection had been edited out. However, Flowers on Main contained one of the more unlikeable male characters I've ever read. It is truly a stretch to believe that Jake actually cares at all about Bree since he spends most of the book resenting his attraction to her, causing angry public scenes with her or showing up at her home or business to pick a fight and tell her he doesn't love her and can't forgive her for their past breakup. Is the reader supposed to believe that Bree discovers that she still loves him when he has done nothing but ignore her when he's not being openly hostile? He was even bad tempered with his sister and niece. . . not a sympathetic character at all. I didn't enjoy this one but will give the series one more shot since I purchased the first three. I'm hoping Ms. Woods will streamline her writing in subsequent books in the series as her characters have an annoying tendency to constantly revisit and analyze their past mistakes, which becomes very repetitive and she also throws in her politically correct viewpoint in a seemingly random fashion which I find jarring and unnecessary--the reader doesn't care about her political leanings. Unfortunately, this reader didn't find it easy to care about the characters in this one either.

Least fav of the series so far,
This review is from: Flowers on Main (Chesapeake Shores) (Kindle Edition)
I enjoyed the first book of this series but Flowers on Main didn't work for me. Bree's actions in the past were immature and selfish, and she isn't ever redeemed. The manuscript that was supposed to demonstrate her hardships doesn't hit the mark. Jake comes off as a big whiny baby. And the resolution is abrupt...I felt the book was unfinished, even realizing that it is a series. For me, there was no difference between their final fight and the myriad of fights that came before.
