About the Author

René Karl Wilhelm Johann Josef Maria Rilke (4 December 1875 – 29 December 1926)—better known as Rainer Maria Rilke - was a Bohemian-Austrian poet and novelist, "widely recognized as one of the most lyrically intense German-language poets", writing in both verse and highly lyrical prose. Several critics have described Rilke's work as inherently "mystical". His writings include one novel, several collections of poetry, and several volumes of correspondence in which he invokes haunting images that focus on the difficulty of communion with the ineffable in an age of disbelief, solitude, and profound anxiety. These deeply existential themes tend to position him as a transitional figure between the traditional and the modernist writers. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

Mad I was reading a biography recently, this poet's work was noted within the story, as well as bibliography. The excerpts of one particular work of his peaked my interest. I then researched the author's life, as well as previewing the free preview - I was absolutely drawn in. Madman? For You to Decide!!

Used to read this in Chinese, bought this Kindle Edition especially trying to read the English version. A great anthology written by a talented poet, worth reading repeatedly and even recite some excerpts.

Interesting book. Poe has always been a favorite of mine and I wanted to see what those influenced by him wrote. The poems are a bit aged but if you can understand the language and appreciate the nuances, that's all you really need.
